How much should i cut off of the spring to lower the front about 3 inches? I have no clue and dont wanna buy the drop springs. But if i mess it up i\'ll get them. BTW im going with a 4\'\' drop in the back already.

So 2 coils should be about 3\'\' or so? I did\'nt think it would take that much but if it does then ok.

All truck are different. Cutting coils for a specific drop is a trial and error process. You will need to take one out, cut it little by little, install it,, then measure the drop. Just guessing on how much will usually drop it too much, and you will need new coils anyways. You will need drop shocks with it. With the weight of a v8, and cut coils, its gonna bounce like a mother f@cker. A good set of drop shocks will help out, but so would drop spindles and a set of drop coils.

you said if you mess them up you will buy the coil springs. if you cut them, you will mess them up. you have to go through the whole trial and error thing and keep taking you frontend apart. than when you get tired of the bad ride, your gonna have to take it apart againg to replace the springs. bight the bullet and buy new ones. you can get a good set for $70 or cheaper.

I have adj. drag shocks that i can adjust to keep the bouncing to a minimum. But i am gonna cut the front springs to see if i can get away without buying the drop springs. I i mess up, like i said ill get the drop sprongs anyway.

of course i have to tell you cutting the springs is wrong i\'ve only done it about 6 times different spring have different sring rates so it is hard to say how far it will drop but a rule of thumb we use is 1 in of height will drop it 2 inches so take it out sit it on the floor measure straight up go down 1.5 in about 1/2 coil or so and try it ride my be worse but the looks make up for it

i had cut ones and it sucked. all it would to is slap the lower a-arm against the upper a-arm

How did the lower control arm hit the upper control arm, the spindle is still the same height.

Im guessing he ment the lower arm hitting the frame.

I once watched a guy take a torch and heat his springs till his car sank to where he wanted it. This i think was one of the strangest things i think i have ever seen anybody do..but hey it worked. I wouldn\'t ever do it, but it worked!!! http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_razz.gif

The drop coils are only about 35.00.

If you choose to cut them 1 coil cut out is roughly a 2\" drop. This depends on the coils as mentioned before. Different coils for 2.5, 2.8, 4.3. Thickness in the coils. Don\'t use a torch, use a cutoff wheel or sawzall.

I would just save the headache and buy the drop coils.

If you drop too much with the \"heat \'em up\" method; then the coils will slap against themselves. If ya cut more than 1 coil out; the ride is poor. I agree that if ya want that much drop; get the right springs to do the job and be done with it.
