Good job sir. Reaction time has nothing to do with et? Ray, what planet you from? LOL It can make or break a race ya know.

I guess I\'m from the same planet as RayL.
Reaction time only has to do with whether or not you beat your opponent.
the timer doesn\'t start until you leave the lights, so Ray is correct, reaction time does not affect ET. You could sit at the lights all day and still run the same ET you normally run once you finally leave the line. But of course, you would lose the race, even if you ended up with a faster ET than your opponent.
c\'mon fasrnur, I would have thought you knew that!

oh yeah, and congrats! those are some quick numbers.
ahh jeff..the question is what planet are you from. If you do a simple search on drag racing basics im sure you will see that the ET timer starts when the car rolls out the staging beams. Yes, in racing reaction time can win or lose you a race but your et wont change. what this means is that our buddy here can race a 9 sec car and still lose if he sits on the starting line looking at the green light for a couple seconds. But once he takes off he will still run 7.xx but will lose to a 9.xx.

Okay folks, I knew that. I have probably been racing long before most of you were out of diapers. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif Ray, you don\'t have to give me a lesson on racing, I was around long enough to remember when they still had flagmen for starting the race. LOL Sorry for the jab Ray.
Srodder I did know that, now what is deep and shallow staging?

not really sure, I definately warmed the tires up better w/ the second run, made sure I purged the spray just before staging, and it could also be that I was on the right lane for the second race. I didn\'t notice any slip or bogging during either run though. Both had very solid take-offs.
Oh and this is my very first time at the track!!! http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif

First time out? That is bordering on incredible, you realize that? http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif
....... Save ALL your timeslips, they can tell quite a story, it it should show your reaction time, 60 ft. time, & MPH along with other valuable info. The 60 ft. time is critical ...... that is, it shows how well you\'ve launched. And the launch is everything, as you saw from comparing the 2 time slips! Note that MPH was nearly same, which is not unusual.
BTW, over the winter NHRA changed safety rules, don\'t need a cage until 11.49 ET.

yeah. . . they told me after the second run that I had to wear a helmet before I race again. That\'s why I only ran twice!! But they mentioned nothing about the cage.

Were you spraying it on those runs? Id expect you to be turning those kinda times on the motor alone.
If your spraying, whats it run off the bottle?

Hey thanks man!. . . .I can\'t tell you how anxious I was. I just concentrated on foot braking it well, and holding the rev. at maybe 2000-2500 rpm. with the line purged, just waiting for that 3rd yellow light to flash and stabbing it hard. I felt very good about the runs, especially the second!

OK Jeff, I\'ll play along...
Deep and shallow staging refers to how close you stage to the line.
Shallow staging can help get ETs down because you have a chance to get some speed before you cross the line and start the timer. Deep staging will help get you across the finish line quicker, as long as you can cut a good light.
How\'s that?

The deep staging will not get you across the finish line quicker as far as ET, you will be quicker with a shallow stage. The deep stage will reduce you RT, but you can also do that by timing the lights better.

yeah, I know staging doesn\'t affect ET. I just mean overall from the time you release transbrake/pedal to the time you cross the traps. The deep stage will slightly shorten the distance you have to go to get across the finish line and will decrease reaction time.

hey S10rodder, I knew that one too. Just thought I\'d thro that one in. LOL Remember, I\'ve probalbly been racing longer than most here. I started racing back in 1973 in denver. Yes I said 1973 not 1873. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif
