Sounds like it could be a blown power valve. It will cause the motor to idle up and down. or it could be your air/fuel mixture screw setting. That\'s where I would start.

It runs fine going down the road but when I stop at a stop sign it drops way down. As soon as I give it gas its fine. When I leave it in park it jumps up in idle then drops way back down. Any suggestions?

is this a torque convertor problem or carb ? if you have a much larger cam then stock the convertor will pull real hard in gear at idle . you basicly have to put it in nuetral to get by. the fix is to put a 2400-2600 stahl convertor in.

This could be caused by almost anything, but something Marky said (big cam) made me think about this: Once in a while, if you\'re using vacuum advance hooked to manifold vacuum, the advance can be in at first, then fades away as the low vacuum signal at idle drops a little, causing less advance, which causes less vacuum. Snowball effect, and soon, no advance at idle at all, making for a lower idle speed.

it only has a stock cam.
