Is this the vin for a 283 64-67 chevelle if so the parts store cant find a starter for me everything they gots to big mine is a smaller stager pattern http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_mad.gif what could the starter i got before.

did you get those numbers off the back of the block, if so, those are the block numbers. also for the chevy\'s they have 2 different starter patterns that would be straight across, and the stagger pattern of which you say you have, the size difference would be normal amongst different aplications, you should be able to use it anyway. i have used the larger starter in an s-10 swap before, was a little tight, but did fit

i pulled that number up under a casting number for the block, and Mortec.com says that that number is for 57-66 283

alright so i got to run a stagerd starter since thats what i took out and do the nose cones have to be the same.

nose cones should be pretty closethe straight would be for a different flywheel, if you want a small starter get 1 for a 4.3 they are smaller, and will fit on the v8
