View Full Version : fOOl presshah
OK fellas im lost. I been dealing with this issue for a while but decided to try to sort it out. Everytime i turn key on fuel pressure is different..it might be 8 today 5 tomorrow run for a lil while it drops to 3 turn off and right back on its 7. This is the second gauge i have on it and no differences. Have new blue pump and regulator, braided -8 from cell to all the way into carb. Changed filters im lost. Anyone had any problems with fuel pressure going ape poop.

Is the pump getting a good feed from the cell?
i would think so the fuel cell is mounted where stock blazer tank was with lines coming out rear sump into filter then into pump. i know if you take the line off the filter all the fuel in the cell will drain out so im gonna have to say yes.

Could be a defective regulator? Are you dead heading it or have a bypass and return line? Is it just when you turn the key on or while it is running?

power or ground issue to the pump?

Could be something as simple as an air leak. Check your fittings between the fuel cell and the fuel pump. It may not leak fuel but the pump can pull air in and that can mess up the fuel pressure. I had the same thing happen to me when the bolt that holds the canister on the fuel filter did not sit flush to the canister.

I would agree with Indiana, but with a twist. I think that you are having problems due to venting the fuel cell, or some sort of vacuum issue with the cell. I think that you need to make sure the fuel reservior can vent. If you are using the blue pump, that thing is the BEST on the market. That thing may be sucking the devil out of your fuel cell. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif That is what you paid for, you just have to deal with it sucking so hard.

Ray I would say the problem is heat related. In the winter my truck will show 9psi. Saturday at the track in the sun it only showed 6psi. It has always done this. My father inlaws car does this same thing as well. I have never worried about it never gave me any problems.
I would understand the heat but when the truck hasnt been run in a few days the pressure is sometimes still low. As far as a vent goes that could be the problem. my vent still has that lil plastic cap thingy on it that came on it..but if the was the case it seems like it would start good then go bad. worth a try i wreckon

Ray, what kind of gauge? Most regular mechanical gauges are pieces of crap, and malfunciton all the time. Or do you have this?
............. I had a GOOD (Autometer?) isolation gauge, installed inside on my pillar. Yeah, it was a piece of crap too. On a hot day, I had 3 lbs. when the truck hadn\'t run in two days. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_mad.gif At first I thought it was me, I bled it, messed with it, NG. Then, I heard thru the grapevine that they are simply pieces of crap.
i had a autometer and now i have one of those fancy liquid filled jegs gauges...hmm. who the hell makes a damn gauge thats friggin accurate!

Well Ray, yours MIGHT be accurate. Probably what I\'d do is borrow a gauge and try it, or, if you can, screw in another \"T\" and run them both and see what\'s up.

do you have a hand held vacumm gauge? most of them you can check fuel pressure with also. i know my craftsman one does both http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif

I am telling you that all of your symptoms say that youe fuel cell is air tight and that no fuel can come out when the can is under vacuum. Just add a vent to the tank and see what happens.

i had a holley blue on my 87 chevy when i went to carb, tried to use a mallory pressure regulator with the intank pumps, but wouldn\'t set rite for the twin tanks, so i went to the holley blue, and had the same problem, never got it figured out, first crank it, it was 7 psi, then would drop to about 3 not even a min later, good luck
