Well, it looks like I am going to have to pull my motor, because of some tranny problems and because of the oil gasket is leaking. So while I replace the tranny, I want to get a new oil pan, because the one that is on there is a bit too big, it is a little to close to the engine crossmember for my liking, and it doesn\'t have a dipstick. So my question is, which oil pan should I use and where should I get it?

The truck is a 94 s10 2wd. I also have headers, if that makes a difference for the dipstick or not.

what year v8 is it? thats what makes the difference in the oil pan. also is it the factory oil pan for that engine? if so any other oil pan will be exactly the same. you might have to raise the motor some?

The motor is a 79. I\'m not sure what the oil pan is, because it came on the motor that I bought from a guy who had it in his s10.

Is there any pans that are a bit smaller?

I had the same problem with my \'83 2WD and needed to go to the Canton pan for a 4WD. P/N 16-100. It is a 7 Qt pan with a windage tray and crank scraper. From the back of the pan to the front it is only about 6 1/2 in. And it is 10 in deep. Also I am using this with Hooker Super Comp headers so you should have no problem.

I have a stock factory pan on mine and have no troubles with it.

A stock pan should work but usually it is the larger capacity ones which have clearance problems.
