I have the rearend that came out of my donar car (86 TA). It is an aussie/possi/with disc rear with of course the link style setup. Has anyone converted and installed this style rearend in their Sdime using the original leaf design? If so, please give me details. I know the front brake systems are the same for the F body and S10 with the difference being master, porportion valve, and back. I just need the details for the rearend swap instead of me going into it blindly. I think the aussie is a little wider but not sure. As normal everyone, thanks in advance, sorj. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_cool.gif

you will have to cut off the arm brackets on the axel where the new spring perchs would need to be welded. Then check for other clearance issue and remoce those brackets too.

Space.

the rear is the same if im not mistaken. i know the true aussie rear is a 9 bolt but other then that the same. oops forgot to say that space is right about the brackets though. you will have to cut all the old one off and weld the new ones for leaf springs on.

Too wide! You can go through all the trouble of switching and cutting brackets but, it\'ll still be too wide to fit nicely under the truck. You can swap the brake set up over to your rear end if you like. I did it and it is not too tuff.

I would avoid the rearend. The aussie 9 bolts from the F-Bodies are not the same as the 10 bolts. None of the parts interchange. The parts are very expensive and a lot of times hard to even get. There are also very few gear ratios availible for it. Were talking like 2 or 3 ratios and thats it. A quick search and I could only find one, a 3.70 ratio for a whoping $329.00. Some people think they are great (coincidently f-body guys whos car happened to have one in it) but I do not think they are any stronger than the normal 10 bolts in the f-bodies. If it breaks in the S-10 you will be looking for another rear cause it will take a lot more money to fix that one.

They are a bit stronger than the 10 bolt, and parts are coming down in price. We make a 3.70 and master kit for them which we dont price much higher than 7.5\" stuff. But, like everybody said, it isnt worth the trouble. By the time you narrow it, cut and weld suspension pieces, you could have done a 9\".

it is just that I have the rearend sitting here and I thought (and was informed) it was stronger. I have a hard shifting shift kit in the tranny and was worried about the stock S10 rearend holding up to the daily driving. The other issue is that my speedo is inop. The vss is a different style and is made and calibrated for the 86 TA. I guess I can switch my tailshafts and housings, any more suggestions anyone? sorj

if you need for the speedo to be calibrated right i have some info for you. as far as a strong rear well? we talked before and if i am not mistaken you said it was a street vehicle and not really for the track. if thats so then the stock 10 bolt will do just fine with that tuned port and hard hitting tranny. let me know if thats what you want. a correct speedo. you dont even have to pull the tranny or anything. i will find the info for you.

Hey Z, that sounds great! I think yall are right, I \'ll keep the original. I was just wooried about the hard hitterr. Here is something funny for everyone, I let the wifey drive the thing around the block, she loved it, but the reason I put the shift kit in is what she said when she got back, \" it runs great but it snaps my neck back when it shifts gears, there must be something wrong with the transmission\" meaning she won\'t drive it until it is fixed. I just told her I\'d work on it but you know our funding, I\'ll have to use it until it goes out. Yall get my drift! Z, if you have info so I don\'t have to change the tail shaft, that would be great, The 86 donar had a drac unit and is calibrated for the TA I pulled it out of. The Sdime is a 90. Thanks for all everyone, oh by the way Z, that book I got off of ebay was a good book but did not have the 15 pin connector schematic, but that is okay also, You can never have enough info, sorj.
