It is actually not as bad as some people say it is it all depends on what you do. I have an 86 short box and only major thing I had to do is dent the firewall and the rest was bolt on. Alot of it depends on if you want a daily driver or a weekend track warrior. Anyways welcome to the site and everyone on the site is usually pretty helpful with any questions that you may have or problems you may have. So if anything just ask all of us ok

i just finished putting a 383 in my 98 std cab...the actual swap only took a week...had the 2.2 out in one day, 2 days prep, and 2 days for new engine...it took me 3 weeks to get it driveable because i screwed up a couple times and i was missing a few parts...as soon as i get my pics developed i\'m going to do a write up.

I am not sure about easy, but it is a lot of fun. The actual swap is not too bad. What will drive you nuts is the details.

The swap isn\'t bad. People just think that it is. The real fun is after you get it together and take it out for the first time! It is well worth it.

Get the S10-V8 conversion manual that\'s for sale in the parts store section of this website. Well worth the money and will save you hours of frustration.

definitely get the manual. i\'ve had it for a year and read it three times, very helpful. though, it hasn\'t told me the secret to coming up with cash, so i don\'t have a v8 yet. money sucks when you\'re under 18. maybe i\'ll push drugs when school starts. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_razz.gif

anyway, welcome to the site, i\'ll help where i can.

The manual is well worth the money,as for what your in for --a big learning curve-- this site is awsome for help on every detail so dont worry too much id say the hardest part of the swap for me was the motor mounts, i used the manual bluprints to make my own but getting the old mounts off my 2.5 l was hell

your probally gonna have to heat up the frame with a torch as well to make room for the starter if your putting in a 350.

In any case the learning was the funnest part for me. Good Luck!!! http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif

it is not very bad at all, i have done several, and never even used a book to do any of them, not even sure the book was out when i did my first couple, and i have also dropped v8\'s into and 86 isuzu pickup truck, along with several others, think my next will be a big block s-10, or maybe even convert a 90 model eclipse to rear wheel drive, and sbc power it, should be fun as hell

First, like many have said, get the manual availible here. I think there\'s a couple factors involved in how difficult the swap is:

* Your mechanical ability and experience.

* The choice of engine/year of truck. Mainly, both F.I., one is, one isn\'t, neither, etc.

* your degree of attention to detail. Some guys could do the job in half the time as you, and both jobs will work equally as well, and at first glance, both look professionally done. It\'s the second glance where the extra time shows. Some guys think the extra time spent is a waste of time, and maybe so. It\'s up to you.

Good Luck

Just remember, the manual focuses on smog legal, California style installs. You won\'t find much on wiring or carbs, but it is definately a worth while purchase and if you feel like your time is valuable, it will save you a lot of trial and error.
