OK HERE GOES....DEEP BREATH....I WENT FROM A 91 TBI 350 TO A 92 CARBED 350 MOTOR, IM RTYING TO GET RID OF ALL THE WIRING, THE ONLY THING LEFT GOING TO THE OLD COMPUTER IS THE FUEL PUMP AND RELAY WHICH IM GOING TO BYPASS WITH AN OFF /ON SWITCH ON THE DASH FOR THE PUMP- BUT ONE OF THE PLUGS COMING FROM MY OLD DISTRIBUTOR-( THE DIST.FROM THE OLD TBI MOTOR IS IN THE NEW CARBED ONE)- HAS 4 WIRES THAT ALL GO TO THE COMPUTER, I CUT EACH WIRE ONE BY ONE WHILE THE MOTOR WAS RUNING TO SEE WHAT IT WOULD DO AND THEY WILL EITHER SHUT THE MOTOR COMPLETELY OFF OR MAKE IT CHUG -A-LUG SO THEY ARE NEEDED. I CHECKED OUT A WIRING DIAGRAM FROM AN 84 V8 CAMARO AND THOSE SAME WIRES GO TO AN \"ENGINE CONTROL MODULE\"-PINS #13,#12,#11,& #10. SO DOES THAT MEAN I HAVE TO GRAB THAT MODULE FROM A WRECKER??? IS THE CONTROL MODULE LIKE A COMPUTER??MY S10 WAS ORIGINALLY A2.8 TBI BUT IT PRESENTY HAS THE COMPUTER AND WIRING FROM A 91 TBI CHEV 1500 PICKUP FROM MY FIRST INSTALL. ALL THE EXTRA WIRING IN THERE JUST LOOKS LIKE SHIT- I WANT IT OUT

After trying to read that a few times I gave up... All caps just gets me everytime....

Especially when its missing almost all punctuation and is all in one paragraph. How do you expect people to read it all and figure it out, if its painful to read?

Not trying to be a jerk, but this is what everyone who looks at this thinks, except for maybe JAMCAR....

ok first of all, i cant hardly figure that out. BUT why are you looking at schematics for a 84 camaro if you have a 91 truck motor??? a control module is a \"computer\", ecm, pcm whatever you wanna call it. if its from a 91 tbi motor im guessing you have some sort of control module already in place. If its running why fk with it?? reroute the wires or run an MSD, HEI, or any other single wire distributor. cmon now lets not reinvent the wheel, if its working leave it alone.

HMM...WHOOPS.. ok caps are off....let me try again.......

the first v8 swap i did on my truck(89 s10) i put in a 91 350 tbi from a chev 1500 i used the complete wiring harness and computer from that truck.

the motor was a piece of garbage, i bought a new one from a 92 camaro but only the block and heads. i didnt have money for a new dist. so i used the old one from the tbi motor.

My friend has an 84 camaro with a rebuilt 420hp 350 in it which is carbed so i was trying to follow his set up and copy it. but an 84 camaro does not have a computer , thats where the wiring diagram came from.

i know i should just go buy a new distrib. but i was just trying to save a little cash for the mean time.

Is there any way to reroute those plug wires somewhere else???and get rid of my old computer , or do i have to get a new dist.

i hope that clarifies sorry about the puctuation.

well first off that doesn\'t sound like a tbi dist. is the plug a long oval shape with 4 wires?? is so that is for electronic spark control. it retards the timing for spark knock and other crap. THROW IT IN THE GARBAGE!!! I have had and seen more problems with those than I can shake a stick at! You cannot disconnect it or jumo wires to make it work properly. just get a nice hei and all you need is a 12v power source that is probably already in your truck from the original harness, it is a big like 10 gauge red, or most likely pink by now, wire that is a key on source. that is all you need for HEI. and a tach wire if you have one. make it simple and clean!

if you are going to carb now, it is easy, i just did an originally 87 fuel injected fullsize that i had, you will need the hei distributer, also find the big pink wire to the old coil that the tbi had, put a end on it, plug it to the distributer. if you are going to use the tbi in tank pump, you will have to get a regulater such as a mallory 4309, it has a provision for a return line, and if you need any more help, just let me know, i have chenged several tbi setups over to carb

thanks hotrodder, ive just put a pressure regulator in goes from 4 to 9 psi but im not using the return line, i was told that because its a performance motor there will not be any fuel to return to the tank.

You should do a return, it helps keep the pump cool.

if you are running the intank pump, you will need to use the return

ok then back on it goes. Want to hear something funny, this is completely off topic, but yesterday i did a brake stand and smoked the tires. i noticed my voltmeter at about 11 volts when i saw the batt. light come on. checked the engine and my alt. belt came off- i was almost sure it was tight. this happened before when i smoked the tires but i didnt put 2 & 2 together.

I could have sworn the belt was tight- is this something that normally occurs????

v-belts are famous for slipping, breaking, and comeing off. as far as all the bashing from different people (never seen that here before) you cant use that dis. with a carb. no way to advance the timing. and yes with the intank pump use the return. you need to keep that pump cool plus it will help on keeping the fuel psi down where you want it. and i wouldnt worry to much about all the premadonna cry babies on here. some of them only have negitive smart ass remarks to make any way. (TRUCKMAN91) good luck man i hope you find your problems.

use the old style HEI, I just sold all the required parts needed to a guy and in stalled it in his 73 Nova, I think I sold everything for around $175 and that was with lifetime warranty wires and distrib from AZ. If you dont feel like using a toggle, use the old style oil pressure switch (fuel pump)for the old vegas, Its easy and has a real clean look instead of a bunch of toggles. Yes, make sure you use the regulator with return line for the electric pump.
