just a few questions as to what i might be getting into. i have a 91 rcsb and i want to get a 5.3/4l60e to put in it. i can get the entire setup with harness and computer for about $1500. what all would i have to change from carbed setup to this one. i know the cooing system would need a few changes as would the fuel system, but what would i heed to do to the harness to make it work. the original in the 91 has been mostly removed. who has done the ls series swap. what did you run into for problems? thanks smooth

When I v8'ed my 1st one there was no "How to" books. I would say your charting new territory also.
With the entire harness, I would think the drive line should 'run' in your set up. As for installing it I haven't yet heard of anyone doing the 5.3 setup yet. I have seen the
driveline in the fullsze truck. I haven't measured it to see if it would fit but the overall vision looks like it might fit.
If you do decide to do it, take notes and pics and the fine thing s that you had to do to get the job done.
My 2 cents -which ain't worth much with inflation.
Space.

I know that you need to use the new 2008 Hummer H3 v8 or Colorado V8 oil pan and sump if you dont want to cut the crossmember

It's pretty much the same as any other v8 swap, you will just be doing more electrical work and need to feed the beast with a good fuel system..... You could not be starting with any easier of a truck for the swap.

Currently building a 93 S10 rcsb with a 5.3L/4L65e. I have the engine in, just wrapping up the small things. The harness was a simple decision for me
Do you plan on using a/c? I notched my frame but the compressor still didn't clear the idler arm. Now I have to relocate it later this Fall if I want it installed.
The engine and trans will be the cheap part of the installation. I bet I have close to $8k into my swap and I'm not done yet. I bought the 5.3L for $1k, trans for $900, and then it just nickel and dimed me to death. Can't wait to start it up and drive it though.

The swap can be done in a very affodable manor, after you buy the engine and trans it's not to hard to wire and fuel the beast...... I think if you purchased the engine right you could keep the cost around 3k...

Hi fellas. I'm presently doing the LS1 v8 conversion in my '87 S10 2wd shortbox. Have the 4L60E trans. Just purchased an Eaton for the 8.5" rear from a '99 Sonoma. Running A/C, will have to relocate the compressor to the passenger side top front of the 5.3 with the newer, shorter compressor from the newer V6 S10's. I do have some photos uploaded on the site here and will upload more soon. Check them out. Thanks for looking!

You can keep the compressor in the stock location by just cutting and bracing the frame....... You are going to love this swap.....

there is not a V8 colorado or H3 they both run straight 5s but hes not the first person ive heard say that so im assuming that the pan fits. what im wondering is how fuel hungry is an ls1 in comparison to the four bangers im bout to jump head first into my ls1 84 conversion and im comfortable with wiring because i got the whole harness outa the doner vette but my crapy fuel system for that 2.5 scares me i think i might just replace lines an all, and mabey get an external fuel pump. anyone who has done this let me know if im doin overkill

i know the lt1s take like 43 psi and there is NO in-line pump for them
the ls1s are like 64 psi i think ill do some checking at work
and if there is a v8 colorado show me to the preorder list

You can upgrade the intake 2.5 pump or just use a walbro 255 inline unit. I like to sump the tank in non injected applications and run a good pump and regulator.... The vetter unit works great and is easy to plump.... The ls engines use 58 psi, a stock tpi pump will also fit in your tank and can be used.
