Welcome LS2. I'd say to first grab the book available on this site. It'll get you pointed in the right direction, and help you to make decisions regarding engine & drivetrain choices.
.......... And yeah, a newer body style just begs for an LSx engine.

I personally would love to put an LS2 or LS7 in my truck... but with a price tag over 6k, for the ls2, just for the basics... I'd suggest something like a 5.3 out of tahoe or a silverado dressed up with all the ls1 accessories. You'd still get all kinds of power and put together right you'd have one heck of a street machine... http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif

Did they cost less the 5.3?
Are they easy to swap?

Well the new 5.3 is the LS block... just uses different accessory drive, oil pan, heads, and intake... but the basics of the motor are the same, so if you wanted to change to another lsx motor later everything "should" just drop in.
