where at in tx do you live? I live in houston and if I couldnt tag my truck at my moms 100 miles away I would hve to worry about the emmissions. My truck is going to need more work cuz of the 4 if it was the six it would be slightly easier.are you going to carb it or going EFI?How big of a v-8?There are a few variables when setting up your truck.

SkyDivin, welcome to the site. There's a ton of decisions to be made to go V8, some of which JCunningham touched on. Is this going to be an every-day truck? Weekend cruiser, or?
........ A great place to start is by getting the book available here on this website. It'll help guide you in making a lot of the choices. And then obviously, just hang around this BB and get some ideas. There's also a bazillion pix in the gallery to help guide you also.
.......... And if you've got some specific things we can help you with, ask away! http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif

What V8 options do I have? I would like to stay with a daily driver but have a real nice performer as well. Would like to start wuth a 2000 era vortec 350 but stay with my stock automatic trans. Is that possible? Can I do this with mostly bolt on applications?
Looking for some advice on what I should do rather than what I want to do. Thanks for your help.

Ok, I guess this is what I should ask. I want to put a V8 in my truck, can someone suggest an engine and transmition combo to look for. I will use it as a daily driver but want higher performance too.
Thanks.

I currently have a 1999 s10 with 2.2 auto. I am putting in a 1998 5.7 vortec. I have a v6 blazer harness that will bolt up to the body harness and will require minor mods to the engine side of harness. I know alot of people just discard the FI but I personally think a FI 350 conv. will me much more suited for daily driving. LT1 or LS1 will be more involved and more expensive, I picked up my motor for $100 with bad head gaskets, harness was free. Im hoping to keep my conversion under 2000.

Thats sounds like what I should do. What trans will you use?

my truck currently has a 4l60e in it that was from a 2wd full size. To put it in my truck with the 2.2 I had to swap the input shaft, bellhousing and torque converter, so I will just reverse the process once im ready.

It really all matters on how much time and money you are willing to put in your vehicle.
Obviously an lsx motor with a 4L60 or 4L80 tranny would be one of the more expensive swaps although you can find 5.3L truck motors rather cheap with that you would have to do a full harness and PCM swap and it would be similar for a lt1 if you kept the stock FI.
Now if you wanted to go carbed it would just be a matter of just a few wires that you would actually need but probably lose your stock gauges. Be sure to pick up an install guide from the site that will help more than you probably realize.
So it's just a matter of preference. I personally like the LS X motors but that's just me, but remember it's your project so do what you want to do and what your budget will allow.
