Hi guys, I'm running a Corvette water pump that turns in the reverse direction (counter clockwise shaft end) and has a 3/4" pilot in the center, what I would like to know is if there is a fan clutch made that fits a 3/4" pilot? I plan on switching from my Flex-a-lite 18" wide blade flex fan to a clutch fan when I finish putting my A/C back in, this is why I ask... Anybody know what might fit? I have Corvette rad in forward position, aluminum fan shroud, 2" spacer between fan and pump, 2" clearance between fan and radiator...

you may have to check with the parts house- napa-- have them look some up.--- I would suggest an electric puller fan-- had a clutch fan on mine-- electric fan quieter, cools better-- and does not rob horsepower.,

Thanks adh383, I'm going to check out the parts stores and the junk yard...

As far as what type fan to use, thanks for the suggestion but I've had several electric fans before and they didn't work as good as the setup I have now, they also put a huge strain on the electrical system to the point off cooking my 105 amp alternator... This is not a race truck and I don't mind loosing a little HP to a manual fan, I have around 360 HP to work with and also plan on running A/C in the future so I don't want the extra electrical load a primary electric fan would place on it... It is also my opinion that electric fans just transfer the HP loss to the electrical system anyway, mainly at lower rpm... With my engine driven fan I don't have to look for burnt wires, hot relays, bad terminal connections and blown fuses, not to mention replacing alternators, batteries and fan motors in the future, and that can get expensive... I'm shooting for a very dependable street machine with low maintenance...

Looks good under the hood-- nice job.

Nice job, looks somewhat familiar

My clutch fan setup (http://www.s10v8.com/myegallery.php?&amp;do=showpic&amp;pid=4157&amp;orderby=)

I got the clutch fan from NAPA

Yes Ryoung68, mine is very similar to yours in several ways... I would also like to say that yours was a setup I looked at when I was changing mine for the third time, it was an inspiration to me and I was very sorry to hear when yours caught fire...

There is a lot of things I did differently though, like 89 4.3L S10 blazer accessory brackets, L98 C4 Corvette water pump and my home made aluminum fan shroud is basically a 2 1/2 in deep box that fit's between the tanks with a 20 inch diameter hole for the fan, it draws air from 100 percent of the Corvette radiator core, yours looks like it may have had some restriction in the corners...

Did your water pump have a 3/4" pilot shaft?

I have only went over 185 one time so far and that was siting in traffic through three lights in the Christmas shopping rush in 83 degree weather, bumper to bumper, barely moving and no helper electric fan up front!

I still have the engine and will check the pilot shaft diameter.

Just curious here. Do you have to get a special fan for the reverse rotation water pump? Like one with the pitch in the opposite direction of a "normal" fan so it blows the right direction?

Ryoug68, I would guess that yours is a 5/8" pilot unless you had a short Corvette pump, the 4.3 V6 reverse rotation pump is 5/8"...

grimpuppy, yes you have to get a reverse rotation fan for a reverse rotation pump, and another note is that the fans all have a 5/8" pilot hole in the center and in my case using the Corvette pump, there is a 2" spacer made by Flex-a-lite that adapts the 3/4" pilot of the Corvette pump to a 5/8" pilot for the fan, for a clutch fan I need a fan clutch that fits a 3/4" pilot or I will have to go back to a standard 4.3 pump and change hoses and stuff around again...

Thanks...

Flex-A-Lite makes that adapter in 1/2", 1", and 2"thick. If you have the clearance the 1/2" spacer might work for you between the pump and the clutch.

Hey grim,

The only spacer I've seen that Flex-a-lite makes that fits a 3/4" pilot is a 2" and the web site says it's for Ford and Corvette applications... The 2" spacer is used when changing from a clutch fan to a manual fan blade under normal conditions... They make it in three colors, natural aluminum, red and blue, it's also called an adapter spacer because it adapts 3/4" to 5/8"...

I just thought someone on here would know what Ford or Fords have a clutch fan that fit on a 3/4" pilot shaft??? So far I haven't had any luck at the junk yard, I still haven't asked the local parts stores about it,... maybe today...

I used this fan: <a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&amp;viewitem=&amp;item=230195468741" target="_blank" target="_new">http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&amp;viewitem=&amp;item=230195468741</a>

and this clutch:

I went to napa and purchased a 89 chevy pickup fan clutch, brought it home made sure I had enought room, took it back and purchased it off of ebay used save about 50 bucks. Took off the one from the fan and put this one on. works good. The one that was on the fan was a screw on type. both are rev. rotation. I'm using a 89 camero serp. belt setup.

Flex-a-lite (http://www.flex-a-lite.com/auto/html/spacers-adapters.html) Part number 832, 1/2" thick spacer adapter for hub pilot 3/4". It is the first one listed at the bottom under the spacer adapters.

Hayden Fan Clutch Catalog (http://www.haydenauto.com/catalogs/hayden/2007-hayden-fan-clutch.pdf) Try this catalog. It has all the specs and size dimensions for all their fan clutches.

I just wanted to thank grimpuppy for that info, the Hayden fan clutch catalog was great and I had fun looking through it but I still haven't found exactly what I'm looking for... The Flex-a-lite #832 is interesting also but I wish I could see a picture of it, I'm not sure I can use it or if I need any spacer anyway if I can get a fan clutch that has a 2 inch offset and fits on a 3/4 pilot water pump, on the other hand there are several in that catalog with shorter offset depths that I could use with a spacer, a few it says can turn std or rev rotation, and a couple even fit both 5/8 and 3/4 pilots... Still looking...

the JTR manual says that a 93-97' ford ranger with a 4.0l v6 has a reverse rotaion (as far as chevy is concerned) 18" fan that will spin on.

is that what your looking fo?
