I am currently working on my mom's 85 trans am with a TPI 305 but I am leaning towards putting a carb on it and making it easier to work on. I think the fuel mileage will not be a whole lot different since it has a 700R4 and can rig up the overdrive to work with a carb. I just want to make it as easy as I can to work on and I have already removed all the smog stuff and all the ac stuff off of it cause I dont like it there any way. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks

Sounds like something I would do, change from fuel injection to a carb... I have an 89 4.3L V6 s10 Blazer I drive every day that I did this to, it was a TBI though, not a TPI... It had 230,000 miles on it and the TBI system was very unreliable and I could never get it to run right nor fixed, I had replaced every part of the fuel injection system at least once if not twice and it was very expensive, I gave up on it and ripped out the throttle body, intake manifold and computer controlled distributor, removed the high pressure fuel pump from the tank and mounted a low pressure fuel pump in the frame rail close to the tank... I left the computer in and pulled some power fuses, then I installed an intake manifold, duel jet Rochester carb and non computer controlled distributor from an 80's 3.8L V6, it now runs like it never did with the TBI, at least while I have owned it, we are now going for 300.000 miles on the original engine, the gas mileage is about the same as it was, if not better, it's so easy to work on and cheap to fix and never lets me down! Just my 2 cents, I think the TPI system would run better on yours but I like to keep things simple and I don't run anything with a computer except my cruise control, I have four carbed vehicles now and two are S10's... http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif
