View Full Version : Strength of factory motor mount bushings

I'm planning on dropping a highly modified LT1 from my wrecked impala ss into a 91 sonoma. The impy motormounts don't look like they will bolt to the truck frame - bolt holes in wrong place. How strong are the bushings they sell to do the V8 swap? Will they stand up to 450-500 hp? Are there any other choices out there?

Bushings? The way the "normal" S10 swap goes, you use the stock 2.8 motor mounts, 2.8 towers, and use adapter plates that you can buy right here.

Adapters (http://www.s10v8.com/store/product_info.php/products_id/33)

And yeah, they're pretty tough. And the motor mounts themselves are durable and safe.

WEll, maybe my terminology is off. I was specifically asking about the durability of the rubber parts. I ended up going to urethane bushings in the frame portion of the motor mount on the impy. The steel part bolted to my motor was starting to oval to bolt hole on the right side.

However, I'm making a set of plates myself from the pattern in the stealth book out of quarter inch plate, so it may not matter anyway.

This is a drawing of the mounts I did. They are strait out of the book.

Thanks for posting that drawing. The book pattern is life sized, but not nearly as detailed. I just copied it and taped it to a piece of quarter inch plate and started cutting.

One question - on the smaller mount, aren't the holes a little close to the edge? Is there any room to widen that plate?

True, a little close to the edge. But if you had one of those adapters in your hand, and saw how beefy they are, you'd be thinking that you'd likely rip the side out of the iron blockhttp://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_eek.gif before the adapter would fail.

.......... If you're worried about strength, you might think about hardened flat washers between the 3/8" cap screw and the adapter. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif

I forgot to mention, that's because if for no other reason, the holes are substantially oversized. Did I ever use hardened or thick flat washers? of course not. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_razz.gif Next time. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif
