The thing is, JUNKYARDS around here in Central/North NJ, and Staten Island, NY where Othcustoms is from, are apparently unlike those in more rural areas of the U.S.
* No such thing as being turned loose to look for parts.
* Normally, all the big $$ parts are stripped off the cars, categorized and stored, and the car immediately crushed.
* Highly unlikely any parts at all, except maybe engine and trans, would be saved from anything more than 10 years old. Crushed immediately.
............ That's been my experience. Do you agree, OthCustoms? If so, that's why he's asking..... http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif
............. I'm so envious of the guys who can just walk thru a junkyard looking for stuff they can use, seeing what might or might not fit and/or work.....

There is no junk yard around here going to promise me a part is good. The warranty is about the best you will get. Your best bet for a manual column and tilt is a Blazer. I searched high and low and could not locate one out of a truck. A friend had a blazer sitting behind his shop and it had one in it. Apparently from what the fellas told me on here, it was pretty common in the Blazers and not the pickups. He just let me take it and put mine back in the blazer. If you do locate one, you should replace the lock cylinder. Mine screwed up a week after the swap. I had to hot wire the truck during a race. That wasn't fun.

well there you actually take the part off yourself, so you can see yourself that it is good or not. Plus there is a warranty on top of that, if say a dist. didn't work or a coil, you can take it back, either get another one or get your money back. But I know what you mean...there is a really bad junk yard that is closer to me, I don't go there...dudes are asses.

Junkyards down here are like an adult version of a candy store. Have 4 in a 15 mile radius. All of them are named "U Pull It" You'd be amazed at what you will find out there.. They drain oil and fluids from the vehicles then set them out for the vultures. I've even seen a couple of V-8 S-10's come in that were in great condition..junked, but still a ton of parts on them .As the saying goes "one man's trash is another man's treasure"

I have a tilt column out in the garage but it's not from a standard truck so the shifter is on the column. I'm right here on Staten Island and $50.00 will take it away. I think we may have taken the ignition out. Let me know, Nick.

i'm in allentown. i know for a fact that s10's are a dime a dozen in the yard i frequent and i know that theres a few 5 speeds in there. you can pick up a column here for $50 or so. might be worth the hour and a half ride...

The 1994 steering column is not correct for 1984 models. The floor plate or firewall plate is different on the late production 1988 models thru 1994 models since the firewall was redesigned for the mid year 1988 introduction of the 4.3 engine. The correct steering column interchange for a 1984 model is 1982-85 but keep in mind that tilt type steering columns were not availaible for 1982 models. The 1986 thru early production 1988 steering columns can be used for 1982-85 models but there are some minor differences. I noticed in your earlier post that you were looking for a delay wiper switch. This option was only available as a dash mounted feature for the 1983-85 models (except 1985 with automatic transmission which was available as a steering column wiper switch feature). The delay feature was available for manual transmission steering columns on the 1986 & up models.
