hey guys. Im planning on a complete bottom end rebuild along with new balancer, rockers, and valvetrain. I was wondering how easy and cheap it would be to make about 300 horses in a 87-92 5.7. I was guessing the one thats in my truck now to have about 250-270 and about 340-370 lbs. But seeing as how ive got a rod knock among other things after it overheated, its time for all new stuff inside. Ive seen flattop pistons with a .030 oversize on ebay and otehr places for under $100. then a new crank that would be prolly another $100-150. gaskets, bearings, rings $150ish prolly. rockers and pushrods prolly $150-200.
Any advice out there for what i should be lookin for. This will be my first complete rebuild. Last onewas just a rering, new gaskets and bearings, and a cam, intake, headers, carb.

Read this book: <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Build-Performance-Blocks-Budget-Design/dp/1884089348/ref=pd_bbs_sr_7?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1204032186&sr= 8-7" target="_blank" target="_new">http://www.amazon.com/Build-Performance-Blocks-Budget-Design/dp/1884089348/ref=pd_bbs_sr_7?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1204032186&sr= 8-7</a>

well i happen to already have that book, along with a couple others. I was merely asking for other peoples opinions on what they have done with somewhat small amounts of money. Im not lookin for a screamin 600hp engine. Just something that once i get the right suspension and rearend that i could get into the 12s, maybe even lower. I had a 2001 cobra that was mostly stock. Had 275s on the back with 373s, made about 330-345 hp at the crank and ran 13.2s. I figure with a truck that weighs about 1000 lbs less with the same gears and 2" wider tires with posi and 300 hp should run maybe faster???
I guess my million dollar question is this. how much hp do you think a 355 with flattop pistons with 10.4-10.9 cr with headers and 2.5 dual exhaust, a lunati voodoo 60101lk cam and 1.5 roller rockers, and a edelbrock 600cfm carb with a dual plane intake should make. Im not good with desktop dynos. Just wondering how many other setups out there are close to what mine will be is all.
