keep a look out on ebay and sorts of stuff like that for motors/trannys or shops and junk yards.. I must recommend that you buy the s-10 conversion maunal from jtr. You will need some conversion headers, conversion mounts, new radiator, motor, tranny, knowledge, ability, guts, sense, and mostly money to make this work. hope this helps. Buckethead

Good rule of them, twice as much as the original budget. I'm in the process of doing a 5.3L swap into a first gen S-10. I almost have all my parts (to start)

Here's my list so far.

5.3L engine - $1000

4L65e rebuilt - $900

Wiring harness, 02 sensor, MAF, headers, mounts - $1532

New alternator, new serpentine belts -$263.89

Corvette radiator with dual electric fans - $537.70

Hobart Handler 140 welder with Argon tank - $658.84 (for A/C notch in frame)

GM Parts Direct. ’02 Throttle and Cruise cable. Corvette filter/regulator. Total $101.66

Jegs – fuel fittings, hose, and fuel pressure gauge - $306.47

Fuel Pump - $180

GM 10 bolt rear end with 3.73 Auburn gears and Moser axles - $450 (truck is in the shop right now getting the backlash and pinion depth check due to a slight howl at 35 mph - probably going to cost another $400-500 with parts)

All new brakes - $200 (need to be able to stop the extra weight added)

Well if you don't have the money you will def need the patience.. I got a deal on mine, bought a rolled over 6.0L GTO for $4,000... But living in the states helps out a lot cuz you can just go to junk yards and get most of what you need. My conversion is just about done and I haven't did the calculations yet but I'm guessing I have about an extra $5,000 on top of the engine and trans..

It's definitely good to figure out exactly what you're going to be spending and count on double that. I bought parts as I had money for the swap, and once I had the parts, motor, and tranny all together, I ended up spending twice what I already had on little things as I went along. Of course I let my truck sit outside for two years and had to replace alot including all my brake and fuel lines because they were so rotted.

If you can get all your stuff from 1 donor vehicle the cost is greatly diminished. However like everybody said it will cost almost twice what you budjeted for. Everybody forgets to add in the little stuff. Hose clamps , nuts and bolts . Exhaust clamps , butt connecters, solder , tstat gasket, you know all the little things under $5.00 each.

I haven't finished one yet for under $5k. So far most expensive one is tipping $9k already and I keep finding odds and ends to do even with 1200 miles on it already. :-(

Mines not done yet but I only have about 600.00 in mine due to already having a motor and trans. Ill might be at around 1100.00 when im done.

Jonce, let me add that up for you: $6530.56. Every build will be a little different, but it seems $5000.00 is a good estimate if you are out sourcing parts. Mine was a bit over $5ooo.00 and I'm currently building a new motor from Ebay deals. Good Luck and keep the reciepts.
