was wondering people opinion on the car. I have resently found a 1972 chevy chevelle malibu that mechanically only needs some gasket replacements and is in good order and body wise it has the typical damage where the vynal top meets the trunk maybe even some holes. The guy wants $5000 for it was wondering if this is a good price. It has a stock 350 with edilbrock intake manifold, carberator, and headers. I believe the motor is a rebuild. the odometer has rolled over once and is reading 52000 currently.

a buddy of mine has that exact same car w/ a 383 in it. the rust/rot that you see by the trunk/vinyl is fixable. your main concern from what ive seen him go thru is , is that vinyl top original? if its a replacement did they do the proper body work under it cause it does rust/rot under it. how is teh chassis? solid, his looke solid but had alot of weekpoint in the center by the doors. whats the inner truck look like, solid? those are all major parts i hear him talk about. parts are easy to come by w/ that car. its a me 2 car. as in i have a 72 chevelle..oh yeah "me to". offer 4000 see where it goes.

The price is not bad. With the price of old cars substituding as an investment rather than an injoyment prices have gone nuts. I have seen rust buckets go for more without an engine. The advice is do what othcustoms recomended. Check everything on the body to include the floor pan. Look for half butt fixes that are a danger to the passengers or driver. The idea of that car with the body fixed and a good paint job can be worth 20 grand when you are done. http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif

That car isn't worth more than about $2000. It is a small block Malibu. They aint worth crap as a collector car. Fully restored done right, it is only a $20,000 car if you are lucky. Rust in the rear window channel and package tray is not easy to fix. If it is rusted there chances are it is rusted below there and into the trunk. At $5000 the guy is dreaming. If it was a big block car it would be worth a little more but $5000 is way over priced for that car. Not every Camaro, Chevelle, Mustang is worth what sellers think they are. In the famous words of the great Andrew Dice Clay, you read about them cars in the collectors car handbook all the time, something about a 10 foot pole...

i spoke to my friend w/ the 72 chevelle he said no way 5000. he got his w/ lil rust and rot for 2500. like melon said u have more to check out then what i even said, and what grim said, its a small block car. the big block cars are the 1's worth the big $$$. still after doing up a car of that year and gettin it nice its still worth something but not as much as bigblock numbers matching. but even if its just to have no caring about the later value, its not worth 5000

thanx guys I appreciate all the input and I think I am going to pass on it. Hell for 5000 I can get a newer body style s10 pickup or blazer I think that might be the route I'll go thanx.

I don't have any completed pics yet but I do still have to put in my speedo I had to cut about 3 to 4 inches off the back of the dash and unbolt part of te dashes frame so it would bend to fit in and the I put a screw in anywhere it would go to hold it in place then I made some metal brackets so that I could mount it to the firewall. It wasn't really that hard just a lot of time cause I had to cut a piece here bend a piece there untill it fit. aso I had to cut big chuncks out of the plastic of the doors in order to make it so I could close the door. Once it gets a little warmer here I'll take some more picks of it and have them posted.
