Hello. got a mild 350 with corvette radiator and a 160 degree thermostat and a engine driven fan. The problem is when i start and let it run for about 5 to ten minutes the temp gauge does'nt move. Its been cold in ohio about mid 30s should it warm up in this amount of time or not.

With a 160 tstat in the winter in Ohio, simialer to NY, the heat you will get won't be very much. even in the small cab of a s10. In my ride, I used to change the tstat in the spring and fall. In the spring I'd put a 160 and the winter it'd get a 192. After all that work I decided it was easier to install a 180 and leave there for forever.

In my full size the 160 wouldn't warm the truck enough to keep the whole windshield defrosted.

So you think my temp gauge is reading right. since it has a 160 stat in it. Maybe ill change the stat to a 190 then. My truck does'nt have a heater in it so i dont know if it throws heat. I was just wondering if the temp gauge was working or not so i dont over heat the motor.

More than likely the gauge is close to accurate. However you would want to check it though. Use an infered thermometer, start the truck and keep probing the tstat housing. Once warmed up it should be reading @ 160 -170 degrees respectfully. Also probe the area around the temp sensor. If the gauge read 130 and the infered reads 160 than you know its not accuate.

You can also change your T-stat housing to one which has a mechanical gauge in it.
