Hello Everyone
I'm a new member and this is my first post. I just bought a 91 S10 that had a 4cyl with TBI in it and I'm going to install a 350. I'm kind of old school and prefer to use a carb over the TBI, can this be done and if so whats involved to do it? Can I also use the old big cap HEI distributor also?
Best Regards
Dan

Welcome goldeneagle, you've come to the right place, there is a wealth of information here from members and there is a great V8 conversion manual for the S10's available in the store in this site... A carbed 350 V8 in a 91 S10 is one of the easiest ones to do...
1: If your truck had a 4 banger you will have to replace the engine mounts on the frame with mounts from a 2.8 V6 truck and buy some conversion mounting brackets for the engine...
2: If changing from TBI to a carburetor induction, you will have to lower the fuel pressure and depending on what engine you use make a decision if you want an electric or mechanical fuel pump, if you decide electric, the easy shortcut is to install a bypass type fuel regulator, the other method involves removing the pump in the tank and mount an electric low pressure pump some place close to the tank, if you decide mechanical, like I did, it is best to remove the pump in the tank, plug the return fuel line and use a mechanical pump on the engine...
3: Yes you can use the old big top HEI distributor, (I did) but it is a tight fit...
Converting from TBI to carb shouldn't be to hard on a 91, I'm sure it has been done many times before, I'm just not sure what all you may have to keep in your computer ECM, my 87 had TBI and I reworked the engine bay wire harness removing all wiring that went to the ECM, all sensors and the ECM it's self... Your truck may have anti lock brakes, cruise control and electronic speedometer that all connect to the computer (mine didn't) so you may have to keep part of it hooked up but I'm not sure, nor am I the one to answer this question, so I will leave it for other members to answer...
Just about anything you want to know about it though is in that V8 conversion manual sold in the store and it's well worth it if you are a newbe to this V8S10 conversion stuff... http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_cool.gif
Good luck, I hope this helps...

like said above. New mounts, fuel pressure regulator from this site, stock fuel pump, big cap style hei, carb, alternator, starter, exhaust and youre good to go. My first time around i had my truck together and running once i had all the parts in less than a week. good luck and have fun. although at times you will wish you could burn it to the ground, lol.
