View Full Version : What I Built Out Of A Summit Engine Cradle

I'm always needing something to store and move around a completed assembly of engine and transmission so I added onto a Summit Racing engine cradle made for SBC engines, I turned it around and mounted the block backwards on it and cut and bolted together a frame extension that would support the rear of the block and the tail of a 700R4, on the original cradle where the rear of the block would have normally mounted I bolted on a bar to be used as a handle to move it around, a couple extra swivel castor wheels at the tranny end and it was ready to go, I think it turned out pretty cool and I bolted my prepped small block to it and then installed my transmission... Most of the metal came from discarded bed frames, the only thing I had to buy was the two swivel wheels from Harbor Freight, I already had two of those engine cradles from Summit...

Here is a better look at it the day I was putting my engine in:

Tahoe,

Looks great, dunno about that color though http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_eek.gif

Now all you need to do is add a radiator, battery and some wiring and Bingo, a test stand!

Thanks guys, you know I really did think about building a test run stand, it sure would be nice to crank them up once in a while to keep them lubricated and stop rust from forming...

A-Dan, as far as that color goes, that's some DAR3152-H Crysler blue, it's like a metallic version of the GMC blue engine paint used on 80's small blocks... This is an 85 block and I liked the color, just some bone yard paint I had kicking around... http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif

No, I said it was like a metallic version of a GMC engine color in the 80's, the shade of blue is almost identical but it's metallic... The can says 79 Crysler turqoise poly, it's Delstar acrylic enamel... I think it could have been a color used on Pontiacs also, or it's close to one... When used on an engine this paint it is more durable and won't stain when something leaks like puff can engine enamel will... http://www.s10v8.com/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif

Nice stand. And it is a metallic aqua blue. I would know it is the same color on my 76' gto.
