If you have not had the dealer replace the tailgate cables yet save yourself a bet of headache and get them done. I went camping on Friday and when we stopped to get ice I opened the back door put my hand on the tailgate to get the ice chest and both cables broke at the same time. Only minor damage to the gate and went back to the house and got the ones of the 2000 and changed them. Nice weekend little sun and lots a beer. Called the dealer to get them fixed and he said there is no recall on them. Nice, but there is and I will show him tomorrow.

GM dealers have a repair kit with both cables and special bolts... costs about 25 bucks.

Do you have the part number for this? One of my cables looks like it's ready to go.
Replacements come with the lack pocket and it's about $75 per side.
So if there's a repair kit, I'll take it.

its not actually a recall but a special policy I work at a local dealer but don't know the number of the policy by heart. If needed I can get it for you...
