Engines oh my.................
For what it's worth, I'd use the engine with the oil pan on the bottom.:icon_rolleyes:.....;)
But seriously, keep us informed of the progress. Ought to make a sweet Blazer.

We worked on the blazer a little this weekend, we installed the engine and trans for the first test fit and modified the crossmember. The unit is sitting where it will be in the chassis and is mounted as far rearward as our mounts will allow.
We had to elongate and offset the trans mount hole in the crossmember (mills are cool!) The crossmember sits in the stock location and bolts back in like stock.

Next we ground the passenger back valve cover coil mounting tab to clear the heater box..... AHHHHH who needs that one!
http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o119/carshopinc/blazerlsswappics041.jpg
Drivers side is purty close, going to have to use the truck coil brackets for this one!

Now on the two wheel drive s-10 trucks gm raised the engine up to improve drive line angles, they are about 1 1/4 higher. With the addition of the LS-S10 oil pan, soon to be available in parts store, we do not have any ground clearance issues or frame modifications to physically install the engine, however we will still be modifying the cross member so that incase of a trans failure the engine will have ample room to rock down allowing easier access to bolts.

We decided to cut the crossmember anyways to help with with transmission removal... The pan did not look like it would alow clearance to rock down to access the top bolts....
http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o119/carshopinc/blazerlsswappics056.jpg
We also cut for the ac compressor clearance...
http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o119/carshopinc/blazerlsswappics054.jpg
Here is our fuel filter/ regulator assembly, we plan on using the stock intank pump!
http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o119/carshopinc/blazerlsswappics051.jpg
Also on a neat side note I swapped the yokes today with a unit that was just a hair shorter and will be able to retain the stock driveshaft.....

The stock throttle and cruise control cables work with little to no modifications to the bracket....... Just open the hole up a bit for the cruise and slide the throttle cable in!

Is it just me or If you have an ac compressor failure you would have to lift the engine up to gain room for the bolts to pull out???

We worked on the truck for a little bit today, With the ls1 conversion and the engine harness we are using we need to use the stock s-10 nuetral saftey/gear selector switch assembly.....
The F body gear selector was not designed for this but all of the gm 4l60e cases were setup to be compatible.....
The F body selector shaft is much shorter and will need to be replaced with the unit from the s-10 (if you have a unit from a truck it should already have this switch assembly).
Here is the f body
http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o119/carshopinc/blazerlsswappics144.jpg
and here is the s-10
http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o119/carshopinc/blazerlsswappics148.jpg
In order to work on the trans I used the engine hoist to lift the unit up to a back friendly level....
http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o119/carshopinc/blazerlsswappics141.jpg
I order to remove the shaft you will need to remove the retaining clip and this 15 mm nut
http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o119/carshopinc/blazerlsswappics142.jpg
Then the shaft can be removed.........It is similar for both the truck and car, you will need to remove the retaining bolts and wiggle the neutral saftey switch off the truck trans and reverse this complete process in the F body trans....... Pretty simple stuff!

I worked on the ac system today, I have a great guy at my warehouse that really knows his fittings. The s-10 uses metric style fittings and my conversion black for the back of the compressor uses standard. Here is what the finished project for the day looks like.

Been thinking about doing the same with my 2002 Blazer, I believe this 4.3 is worse than the 2.8 that was in my1989 ext. cab. Worst running engine I've ever driven power wise.

I really liked the earlier 4.3 tbi engines, when they starting changing the engines to poppet configurations with those darn spiders and such they just started sucking....

Did you make it smog legal? EGR, Air pump, ECT?
carshop
09-30-2008, 12:47 PM
It was not smog legal but I feel that could be accomplished very easily if a person wanted to.... The biggest obstical would be the cat placement since mounting it like factory is not a option....

what did you do to make the cluster work? and what computer ang wiring did you use
carshop
11-24-2008, 12:21 PM
The cluster works due to the harness from jarred.... It is all based on a 2000 operating system.

Hey carshop got a couple questions
Did you have to alter the heaterbox to make the engine fit? I know you said you cut a coil bracket tab off- Is that it?
Where did you get that alternator bracket from? it looks really good and am sure its cheaper than going to corvette brackets.
Any input would be great. I have a newer s10 and want to put an ls1 in it. Trying to figure out all that I have to do before attempting to do the swap.
