Hey guys, I have a new toy.
Just bought an 88 Blazer with the heart of a 95 Z28. The previous owner was using the truck as a daily driver until the optispark went out. The conversion he did was darn good to include relocating the battery to the back cargo area.
Right now I am waiting for my new distributor to get the engine back up and running. I know the set up works due to videos before the sale.
I was wondering about the use of LT1 Edit program to make adjustments and do temp changes for the cooling fans. The stock Camaro fans and shroud was installed and operated by the computer.
The speedo is the other thing I need to recalibrate. I plan to use the 92 Camaro wheels and tires I was going to use for the 86.
The smaller tires will throw the speed off a bit. I am looking into a Hypertech programmer III to do the deed for now and later resell the programmer once I can use LT1 Edit.
I have the cables and a program called Freescan that works good for trouble codes and overall what is happening with the engine.
The previous owner went through the trouble of having the engine harness and the truck harness merged to work with the Camaro computer.

Any info and or better options, let me know.

Grim, the guy give me two computers with VATS turned off already. I believe that is the major concern. He had a copy and lost it. He is in the process of contacting the company for another download. He should get the second copy for cheap or free since he purchased it already. If I get the copy from him for a quarter of the price, SCORE. I don't plan to get wild with the program, but we all know what happens when we get bored. This little truck may end up with a turbo later, just need to see how the ball bounces.

The truck already has mods on the interior. The gauge cluster is from a Typhoon. The center console is from a 2002 + S truck with the console shifter. The seats are from a 2000+ blazer. The carpet was changed. The body was painted 1 1/2 years ago. The truck was in his family for all but 30K miles for the last 14+ years. He got the truck from his mother.

Thanks for the congrats

sounds like a good deal. i dont deal with the cpu stuff to much, couldnt even tell you what vats is. i have the accel DFI gen 7, in my turbo neon and its great. i can change from 93 octane to 87 octane then to E-85 with the push of a button on the laptop. and from 8psi to 28psi. so yea the whole being able to tune your motor with a laptop or programer is great. i should have kept the tbi on my blazer instead of the double pumper. oh well. hope he gets you the program. keep us updated.

Grim, VATS stands for Vehicle Anti Theft System. With it active, the engine will start and run about 3 seconds and die. I hear you on the wish TBI was installed. Gas prices are coming down a little, but still way too high. This truck was getting about 20 MPG in the hills of Georgia. Yes I drove 1100 miles round trip to get this jewel. The price could not be beat, I almost stole it.

i see. i tend to drive a good ways to get my vehicles too. i drove about 650 miles for my last car. but i got a 20,000 car for a 5,500 bike. thats what happens when you start a project that is too big and get tired of it.

ill probably catch some shit from this but heres my latest ride.

Grim, that was sweet. I have made it a habit to atleast check for new ads as they apear. The problem on my end is you see all the deals when you are broke. LOL

Put my new optispark in today and She lives. Time to put insurance on her and go for a drive. Still fighting a couple oil leaks, nothing major.

Got the oil leaks under control and had a little fun today. Need to fine tune a couple things to get ready for state inspection. The inspector may get a surprise when he looks under the hood. LOL. The blazer is set up really good as a daily driver with 3.42 gears and a good strong LT1.

Grim, it was awesome. I almost forgot it was too high on the first turn. The back tires wanted to come around. Yesterday I was so full of adrenaline I didn't want to stop working on her. My buddy had to tell me, " man, it's 6PM time for me to eat dinner". I will be taking a lot of components from my older project to make this one better. I have the electric sport mirrors. Give this truck a 2-3 drop with spindles and drop leafs. The 245/50/16 on the 92 Camaro flat IROCs will help on those turns. I will be getting the LT1 EDIT program for about half the price. The guy I bought the truck from send a few emails to line things up. The download for $50 and a small fee to transfer his license to me. I will have full cusomer support. I can even get the second license for the other computer( spare). My buddy already has plans for a good stereo for the truck. He made a deal with me, The 327 and trans for him to purchase and install the entire stereo system.

Not bad for a 20 year young truck. I spent 1150 for the truck. 350 for fuel, 125 to rent a trailer, 127 for a optispark. 40 for two AN fittings to stop the tranny leak. A little grease on the turn signal cam, two new 1156 bulbs, 88 to register the truck and 10 for state inspection. 42 for an oil change with syntetic. Still running on the fuel when I bought the truck.
