Welcome Denny, guys like you and I are making this a global site. I am from Canada and have 93 s10 with a 305 in it as well. Soon it will have a 350. How much is the gas per litre in Germany? We pay around $1.35 CDN or 1.44 USD/litre ($5.41 USD/gallon)

Hy @ all
@RockinS10:
We've to pay 1,50€ / 2,09 US $ per litre. But it gets more expensive daily.
Carbed Cars can reach max. Euro1(Exhaustclass), TBI, MFI etc, all the electronic aided injections are better. For a car with carburetor you have to pay a lot of taxes: 15,00€-21,00€(20,91US$-29,27US$)per 100ccm/6,1cui. That makes 750€-1050€(1045,30US$-1463,41US$)for my car with 305cui(5000ccm³)every year.for electronic regulated machines its easier to reach a better exhaust class and it will get cheaper then. But all this electronic makes me crazy.
What does the tax make for you in Canada?(USA?)
Greetings

Welcome Denny :icon_wave:

Here in the states, taxes are different for each individual state, but you only pay the taxes for the area in which you live. Where I am in Pennsylvania, I pay a 6% sales tax on the purchase price of the vehicle, and then an annual fee of $58.50usd to licence it for the street. We also have annual saftey inspections and emissions inspections which cost around $50.00usd each year.

It seems that here in the USA, we kinda take it for granted how reasonable our fees are for personal transportation.

Welcome to the site, there is a wealth of knowledge spread all over the world on this site. If we can't answer a question we know someone who can.

tax on vehicles is 8% in this province. We pay 225/year, but there is no fault insurance so insurance costs less. If you have an engine 4.0 litres or bigger your pay 255/year.

Welcome DocChevy.
Like the guys all said, most taxes depend on the state. I live in NJ, one of the more expensive areas to live, real estate and insurance wise, which are the real killers. But regarding vehicles:
* I think that most taxes in the US are not specifically designed to steer us toward fuel efficient vehicles.
* There is a tax on luxury cars and gas guzzlers that's paid by the auto company as the vehicle is produced or imported. ( I think? ) (can somebody confirm this?)
* Most of our taxes are included in the cost of our gas, I think that's mostly nationwide, but does vary a little between states. That is, some federal tax, some state tax. Most of that $$ goes to road repairs, etc.
* As was said, there is a state sales tax when buying a car in most states, which is directly proportional to the cost. That even goes for used cars. In NJ, it's 7% of whatever you pay.
* Then there is the annual fee charged by each state. Usually it's called "registration" or Tag (license plate) fee. In NJ, that cost is determined by the vehicle weight. (factory gross vehicle weight) (or GVW) In NJ, that annual fee runs from $75 to $150 or so.
* The insurance is another big cost. Now THAT cost is reflected in the HP and style of the vehicle and vehicle cost. That, because of safety and likelyhood of accidents, etc. Nothing to do with the vehicle's economy factor. The car insurance here falls into 2 categories, collision and liability. Usually liability is mandatory, collison is optional, but required the bank if financed.
* Insurance costs: For instance, in NJ, the average new car with collision and liability insurance would cost $1500/yr. for a driver with a perfect record, and old enough not to be in the high risk category. (over 25?) And, an 18 y.o. driver, may have to pay as much as $3,500 per year. Ouch! Liability is generally substantially more expensive than the collision insurance. Hey, the lawyers have to live in mansions, right? sue, sue, sue! A driver in a bordering state that is less congested, and not quite as law-suit happy can pay as little as 1/3 for the liability insurance, and the collision somewhat cheaper too because of less congestion, hence less likely to have an accident.
whew!:user: That's all I know.:icon_razz:

In the great state of Indiana, minimum for plates and taxes is like $85 a year. Insurance for me is like $25 per month, taxes are figured into gas, around $3.95 right now per gallon. I thank God everyday we don't have emissions testing or anything like that. I do take it for granted, but thank you for opening our eyes to how great we have it ("cheap" gas, speed shops, huge mail order speed shops, etc, etc.)

Oh, and welcome to the site!!

Holy cow! $25/month for insurance? That's like 1/4 what I'd pay for basic, and I'm in no risk groups. Is there any room for me in Indiana?

BUT........... I saw gas today around here for $3.21 per gallon. But of course, I can almost see the refinery from my house........:icon_razz:

That's for the minimum coverage, per vehicle (I get a fleet discount, no crap), and a lot of shopping around. I know other people that pay similiar amounts. Gas has been all over the placehere lately.

Plenty of room here in INDIANA, Lots of forclosed homes. ;-)

Insurance for my truck liability, fire and theft (no collision) is 140/year. Based on the 1500 I paid for it.

And to think I thought $25 a month was high. I got my bill yesterday, the S-10 is $13 a month. I have six vehicles insured and 2 have full coverage. My total bill is $98 a month.

As far as taxes go. Taxes for vehicles are paid to the state you live in and are not a federal tax. So they vary state to state. It is usually a personal property tax we pay each year. It is usually base on the value of the vehicle.

Not bad man, in Germany you can insure max. 1 car for this price.
Six cars, not bad! We pay 1100€ taxes only for the G20 every year. The blazer with 2,8 cost 440€ the year. complete insurance for G20 is about 690€ for 12 months. Basic insurance for my S10 does 450€. :icon_mad:
