well i was going to give up on S10s after i sold the 91 short bed i had. then i decided to put a v8 in my 2000 but want to do an LS swap and just have the tools needed for that. i dont want to put a carbed motor in the 2000 its just way to nice for that. so i was going to go back to a monte or malibu. but i finally decided to stick with the S10 and bought another blazer. its an 89 model. the good thing is that its black allready, and its allready a stick. i allready rebuilt the 327 that was in the 86 that i sold and then got back?? crazy story. so i am using that motor and doing twin turbos on it. i am gathering parts and using the white blazer for mock up. once its all together then i will tear down the 89 and swap it all in. any suggestions on a good solid trans that will hold up to about 500-600hp same for torque?? with out breaking the bank?? i am trying to find a good factory 5-6 speed from either a camaro- 6-speed or a 3/4 ton truck 5-speed. give some opinions.

yah i have been working alot since the storm. hopefully i can save some money and start getting the things i need. can you beleive that when i found this blazer the 1st time it only had 70,000 miles on it! but i passed on it. then a buddy bought it and drove it awhile and traded it in on an 08 GMC. when i saw it at the dealership i had to get it. he left hid $500 radio in it brand new rockford fosgate front and rear speakers and left the SS camaro wheels on it with brand new tires. he still had the factory wheels at home? but it still only has 80,000 miles on the original 2.8 it is REAL clean.

yep. thats one of my problems. i dont have the money to pay someone. nor do i really want to but would. and i am working in a single car garage with no welding machine, torch, so what to do? stay carbed i guess. i am looking to do about 8-10 psi and a max of 15psi. i think what will be the hardest and longest thing to do is fab the headers and down pipe. but i will get it done. i found a set of twin turbo exhaust manifolds for like $600 i might just go that route since the headers will cost at least that much if not a bit more.

UPDATE: 10/5/08
i got my lazy self into the garage today around 1pm. all i am doing right now is starting to mock up the v8 5-speed combo in the old 86 since it was already in the garage with the front cap removed. so far it all seems to fit just fine. except the aluminum driveshaft. it was way to long so i have to use the stock donor shaft and run the motor in the all the way forward position. i am going to see what it will cost to get the aluminum shaft cut down. if i even can at all around here. if the price is fair i might move everything back some and get the shaft cut. but i want the stick to line up with the stock hole in the floor. here are some pics of what i got done today.

got a few more pics i will add. some of the turbo headers and the 4/4 drop. should drop more in the front once the V8 is in. i also need to get 2 1/2" spacers for the front. with the drop spindles the lip of the rim hits the tie rod end?

well i sat down today and made an order. so when the parts come in i will get some pics and post them. i got 2 JDM T3/T4 stage 3 50 trim turbos with .63 A/Rs together good for 750hp @ 27psi, and a set of JDM 50mm wastegates. i was going to swap heads and intake, and go with a bigger cam but my goal is 500rwhp so i am keeping what i have. i will do 500 easy. when i get my tax return i am going to get my custom cam from cam motion in B.R. La and im going to try the 650 mighty demon blow thru carb. i am also not using the turbo manifolds above but instead going to fab up 2 sets of headers that will be a direct fit for a v8 s10 in the forward or all the way back position. when they are done i will put the extra set up here for sell. if it sells quick we are talking about doing several sets at a time.
You gonna be intercooled? a/a or w/a?

well i figured i would post up some pics. i got my turbos and my blow off valve. my wastegates should be here tomorrow. the headers i have now just wont work so on the 19th when i get paid again i am going to buy all the stuff i need to fab up a complete set of one off headers. pics will follow as the headers go together. the materials are going to run about $500 i thought i could get it cheaper but its not going to happen. the turbos are T04Es (T3/T4) with 50 A/R cold side .64 A/R hot side. 60mm turbos. they are good for 375hp each. and the blow off valve is 51mm. the gates are both 50mm so boost control wont be a problem.

I am very interested. Show us some pics of the custom headers when you can. Are you going to use intercooler(s) for intake?
ZR1BLAZER
12-10-2008, 04:44 PM
i might have to put a hold on the headers until after Xmas. i just talked to a guy that has a brand new mighty demon 750 blow through carb for $475 shipped so i might have to jump on that deal 1st. but i plan on doing a single intercooler with twin 2.5" inlets and a single 3" outlet. but that just depends on if i have the room. my motor will be in the full fwd position so the I.C. would have to lay under the fron of the motor between the core support and the sway bar. and if the motor is to close to the radiator then i wont be able to run the 3" charge tube up and to the bonnet.

i think i am going fuel injected. i am thinking of a holley stealth ram with 58mm TB and #36 injectors. melon head has a freind with a holley 950 commander ECM and harness for this application. i will have to swap heads but that just means more boost :0 :0

yah. i jsut got one for $500 plus shipping. but i still need the ecm and harness. and i talked to a guy that runs the same ecm with a tpi. looks like i will be looking for a set of 55psi injectors.
$920 for a CSU carb or fuel injected??? i am hearing that everyone that has tried the barry grant blow through carbs arnt having any luck with them? so i dont want to was the money. plus i know fuel injection. i HATE!!!! carbs. (i just dont understand them. lol)
harleyboy

well ZR1 I hate fuel injection that stuff is so hard for me to understand with all the computer s#$t so we got something in we both agree on we hate something.

ZR1 will the blazer hold that mush power or are you going put it on the street.
ZR1BLAZER
12-17-2008, 08:31 AM
street. i dont have time for the track. when work is busy i work 6 days a week sometimes 7 and my starts at 4am everyday. i dont usually get home until 5-7 in the evening. with the occasional rain out or just an early day i work all the time. most of the build will take place in the slow season when i have all the parts and no extra money. just lots of extra time to build. if i tried building a drag truck it would be usless for me because it would just sit in the garage for 8-10 months out of the year.

The compression is too high right now. Easier to change the heads with larger chambers vs changing pistons. The other thing is the mating of the intake. The current heads are Vortec and the new intake from the Holley requires the older style heads.

yah what he said. but i am also wanting to flow tons of air. i would love to buy some pro 1s but i think i will settle for a set of sportsmanIIs 200cc heads or a set of 210cc pro top line heads. i would like to work my way to a twin T-70 set up thats capable of over 1000hp. Melonhead and i are getting ready to help another guy we know out with his 1st S10 swap. he just scored a 98 ex cab step side with a bad 2.2 for $400 the truck is real nice. we are going to pull the 350 TPI motor that we installed in his 83 full size along with the 700r4 and put in the S10. along with a set of 3.73s and a posi. thats going to be a sweet ride.

I've seen the new setup on a Camaro where the turbos were installed at the back of the car. How would that setup be under the back of a S-10? Seeing as to how clearance problems play a factor as in room for possible dual turbos & intercooler, etc.,it seems like a feasible option. Keep the pics coming tho. Really want to see the headers etc. to complete the learning process here. When it spools up, you're gonna have a handful! Good luck!

i know i promised some pics. i have been a little busy with work and a small side project. i had to tear down the top half of my 2000 blazer and change the intake gaskets and get all the water out of the oil and rest of the block. damn GM and their stupidity but i got it. runs all day at 160 now. i will get picks of the F.I. and wire harness ECM and the cleaned up turbos and wastegates.

just trying to keep this going. i have been slacking on the pics. but im not doing anything today so i am going to take a bunch of pics and post them up. i have been gathering parts and still need to get the 86 out of the garage. so i can start but i will happen soon. the header build has been pushed back but? it will happen. i am hunting some heads right now. every set of heads i look at seem to be wrongly advertised. i am looking for a good set of used heads and it seems everyone is trying to sell a set of 170cc heads as 190cc and so on.

here are some pics of what i have been collecting. getting the electronics and fuel injection system put together. just need a 58mm throttle body and some sensors. but heads are next on the list. let me know what yall think so far. these are the kenne bell boost a pump, holley 950 commander stand alone ecm with harness and the intake set up i am using. complete with Venom 55lb/hr injectors and holley boost referanced adjustable fuel pressure regulater. if yall dont know what a boost a pump is its a device thats made to run a consistant voltage to your fuel pump allow fuel capacity of a pumps design. i will be using the Walbro 255lph high pressure intank pump. (high pressure pump is for boosted applications)

that is where the seat belt light used to be. the shift light that came with the tach is a round metal case with a light in it. it fit in the hole behind the cluster nicly and the light plugs into the case from behind the cluster just like the rest of the dash lights. but it does flash bright. even on a sunny day you can see it flash.

you know melonhead said the same thing? there is oil coming up through the pushrods but it is golden. this is an all new motor. at that rpm its just slowly flowing rev it up some and it starts shooting out. hopefully i have the wiring done today. there are some gremlins in there some where. the truck was purchased with a motor that wouldnt run. it wouldnt run because there were burnt wires under the hood and all the digging they did under the dash. but im going to get it. i have to have it done buy sat evening. so i can put my mazda in the garage.

well i have the ecm, coil, NSS, and all taken care of. the BCM is working the auto headlights still work and all but i have no headlights? i have parking lights? but it starts and turns off with the key now and only starts in park and neutral. but i am having issues with the trans. it doesn't pull in any gear so i am assuming that when i installed the shift kit that i didn't fully seat the pressure valve. but if its set right then i will have to drop the valve body and reinspect the check balls. no big deal. i have the front cap back on and the bed goes back on tomorrow as well. so by Sunday the Mazda goes in the garage. i haven't really got an new parts for the Mazda yet. i told the wife i want some leather racing seat for X-mas, so thats 1 item down. Christmas bonus should be about 1500-2K so that will cover rims and tires and maybe an intercooler. then at income tax the rest will be bought. ends up i need a custom hood for my car. and there is only 1 guy that makes them. so that's 600 right off the top.

i will have the truck done tomorrow for sure. there will be some loose ends to tie up but still waiting on the 1200 for the Dakota digital gauges so i still have plenty enough time to clear up all the small stuff. the main goal was to get it running and back together to get it out of the garage and get the car in there so i can tear it down and start the wiring and paint. so when feb rolls around that will be done and i can finish up the turbo side of the car. that way when that is done the car will be done. as soon as i get it tuned and the motor broke in and make sure it like 12psi of boost i will most def. burn up a set of tires, few tanks of gas, and a whole lot of room on the memory card in the digital cam corder. :)
