hello to all! Im new here from over at Mys10. Im starting a new project thread on my race truck. so here's all the info. its a 1990 s10 swb. the motor is a 406sbc. dart ss heads, street dominator intake, holley 750 vacuum secondary, comp cams 216/223 .464/.482 lift, shorty headers, dual 2-1/2" exhaust with super 40 flowmasters dumped under the cab. the transmission is a TCI built th350 with a 10" 3000 stall TCI converter, desktop dyno puts it around 420hp/450lbs @5000. by the way im wanting to sell the converter cause im wanting to go to a smaller stall. its not out of the truck yet but i will let yall know if anybody is interested. it has less than 100 miles on it. the rearend is still the stock 10 bolt with 3.08's, but i have the gears welded for right now til i get a 9" and a spool. the cam in there is an xtreme 4X4 cam, the motor come out of a 4wd c10. i'm putting a different cam in it this winter, i have to rebuild the motor anyway cause the rings arent seating and its burning oil really bad and it wore the cam. the new cam will be a comp cams 230/230 .480/.480 lift. here are the most recent pics of it, but i'll be posting the build up pics later on. right now im just introducing me and my truck.

these are the only pics i have of the motor before the headers turned rusty and my intake turned a little brown because the fuel rail was leaking, so here are some clean pics, lol. it has a different distributor and no ignition box now.

with the breather im using, thats about the smallest hood i could go with. you can get down even with the fender and see the top of the carb. with the stock hood, it rested on top of the carb, and thats without the air cleaner stud. its a 5" scoop, and i have no more than an inch clearance. plus, as soon as you hear it run, you know it aint a sleeper :D.

That is a nice truck. and also Welcome to the site.
A while back they stopped put zinc in the motor oil. The zinc in the oil is what protects flat tappet cam shafts. More than likl;ey thats what killed your cam. Once you get a new one soak it in the lube for a few days. It makes a big differenace.
Also add a little to the oil after you change it next week.

hey guys and gals. i forgot that i had a video of my truck from this past spring. i did a nasty burnout on my dads street, but mainly did it for the neighbor at the end of the video. this guy is a complete a$$hole, long story, lol. this was on open shortys so it was nice and loud:naughty: the first part of the video is the first time i drove it, it had p.o.s. distributor, and some crappy plugs so ignore the fireballs. enjoy...

hopefully the weekend after next, im gonna try and pull the motor, tear it down and see how bad the damage is. hopefully its just the cam. my oil pressure droped to 0psi abut 100yrds from my house, so i just killed it and coasted to the driveway. so i dont think i did anything major,it never knocked or anything. when i do the tear down, i will post many pics so dont worry.

i wish i was putting a bigger motor in it. but im just rebuilding this one, putting a bigger cam it, going from a 750 vac secondary to a 750 mech secondary dbl pumper, and a little pocket porting on the heads. money is tight so i am going to be doing this slowly, i hope to have this thing ready for spring. by the way, sweet looking motors

well here's a new update on things. i got the motor pulled over the weekend, and tore it apart monday. here's all the things that need replacing. the crank needs to be turned but not much, i was already replacing the cam anyway so that was accounted for. but the cam was screwed up pretty bad, only like 6 lobes were still good. the cylinders are good and the heads are good. the pistons are ok as well, but i need to bore the block due to a decent ring groove at the top of the cylinders, so i'll be replacing those. the block is already bored .30, so im gonna take it .40, and switch from dish to flat tops. im keeping the same intake, holley street dominator, and i'll be doing some pocket porting on the heads. other than that it just a waiting game on parts. here's a few pics of the motor tore down.
here's the cam wore out..

haha....those are pics from before i fired it up the first time. i just posted those cause thats the best looking pics i have of the motor. im not running that coil/ign box anymore. now i have an HEI distributor w/ coil in cap. that hole in the t-stat housing is where my coolant gauge runs to.:D
