Hey all I'm new here jus transfered from mys10, I'm currently starting to get my project together. Truck is a 1997 chevy s10 sportside ext. cab 2wd, I am looking to put in a 8 cyl and am currently looking for suggestions on engine and tranny swap as well as rear though I think I'm gonna go with the ford 8" or maybe something diff. pending on what i can scrape up that fits. I live in Maine as of now and am wondering also if anyone knows the laws of engine swaps in that state? I've heard same year or newer engine so if anyone could let me know if they have that knowladge I would also be very appreciative. On a side not i know I only have a junior memb. for now that is gonna change as soon as I get the money to have some cushion/play money which will be around 3 weeks hopefully and I hope to hear from y'all and am open to any suggestion so go ahead and put it all out there. Thank you in advance for any intrest in this forum every lil bit will help.

LS1! For the WIN! They make fun trucks and you will enjoy this conversion the best part is that you can get all of your parts from the sexy man who owns this site!

I wouldn't mind an ls1 The only thing I think i'll have a problem with is finding one the same year or newer then my truck. I'll look into it though but i was trying though as oxymoronic as it is to keep decent gas mileage. So for that reason was maybe leading towards a newer 5.3l. But outta curiosity will the ls1 hook up to the 4l60e alright or will it need an adapter or possibly do I need a new tranny to run that engine. I've been looking into a 4l60e called the 700-e raptor http://www.transmissioncenter.net/4l60e.htm anyone heard anything about these guys they do have a bellhousing to fit a ls1 so thats why I asked.

LS1s come with 4L60E trannys. Im just about to start a LS2 with a 4L60E into my first gen. Its out of a GTO 400 horse and easy to get.

The LS1 was introduced in the '97 Corvette and are most popularly found in the '98+ F-Body, so finding one the same year or newer then your truck should not be a problem. The problem may be that a 5.3L will most likely be cheaper then an LS1.

Well, if you wnat easy and inexpensive, and IF you don't have to have newer than your truck year, the first gen carb'd swap is the way to go. You can still get "vortec" 350 up to 96 (at least) in vans, I have a 96 with a TBI 350. Your a long way away, or I'd sell it to you.
