Hey guys, bought a phoenix octane r series on someones suggestions on this site. It worked well and I was very happy with it. My son told me that I had to be careful about unhooking the battery in the truck or I could blow the amp. Maybe thats what has happened to it. Anybody know? thanks Dennis

With any High Power amplifier, care must be taken when applying or disconnecting battery power.
The essence of the amplifier is it's array of Capaciters, which just like a Coil, store energy, that is released when triggered.
If you were to touch the positive and negative terminals together (Battery Cables or Terminals at the Amp) the capaciters can discharge into the circuitry of the amplifier, overloading any number of circuits.
Remove the back cover and check for any black spots around any capaciters, or even the internal material of the capaciters melted out and puddling around their bases. Also check all resistors and diodes, etc. for discoloration or "burn" marks.

Excellent advice ^^^. If you're not getting any power to it now, and you're sure you have a GOOD ground, chances are a capaciter blew inside if the positive/negative made contact with anything they're not supposed to. Make sure your remote wire is hooked up too, and that it's connected at the back of your head unit, (tells the amp to turn on.) The big inline fuse and the fuses on the amp are all good right?

that was me that suggested that amp. if i remember right you bougt the 200 watt amp. you cant blow that amp by just disconnecting the battery. and if you ground out the + cable at the battery by mistake (real quick) that wont blow the amp either. unless you had it wired wrong to begin with. thats why the remote wire should always be to a keyed hot. to avoid burning up in those situations. try and check the inline fuse. the check the fuse the remote wire is on and double check your ground. if all is good and amp still doesnt power up then its toast. (might have had it cranked to high?) also check connections at the power point at the amp with a meter. if you are getting power there on the + and remote then again the amp is toast. GL
