I recently came across a 350 and I was wanting to put it into my 92 blazer 4x4. I am going to rebuild it, and put a new carb/intake on. Any one suggest a good cam. It's going to be mainly a hunting truck. I don't want a cam so aggressive that I need to change lifters, push rods, springs, ect. Just something to wake it up. Also, if you want to suggest a good carb/intake combo, that would be great. Thanks.

Does anyone with TH400 experience know how the length of that trans will affect his transfer case and front driveshaft, or if the transfer case will even bolt up due to the different spline count?

I don't deal with 3-speed automatics, especially in 4x4 builds so I'm throwing this out there for the more educated.

The TH400 CASE is 2.6875" longer from Bellhousing mount surface to Tailhousing mount surface when compared to a TH350, but is only 0.9375" longer than a 4 speed TH700r4 CASE.

In the case of the OP's S-10 transfer case, I found an Advance Adapters part number 50-8501, which looks to be about 3/4" to 1" long. This is for use with a 4wd TH400, there are aditional parts required if it is a 2wd TH400 Trans. http://advanceadapters.com/index.php?1&p=view_category&category_id=14&option_24=GM%20TH400&option_25=GM+NP207+%28S10%2FS15%29 . This adapter is for replacing the 700r4 only, and uses the stock 700r4 to NP207 adapter as well as this new adapter.

With the engine in a similar location to a standard S10V8 swap, he would need to shorten the rear driveshaft, lengthen the front driveshaft, and possibly (due to short length of rear drive shaft) drop transfer case and/or use a double-cardone jointed rear shaft. If the truck were lifted 5" or so, the rear shaft would not need shortened, but might still need Double-Cardone Joints due to extreme angle. Front shaft would need to be lengthen an additional amount to compensate for set back and lift.

Is it just me or does the use of a 700R4 sound very pleasing after all that work? Especially for a hunting truck. Deep 1st gear for those uphill climbs with tall tires, and a nice overdrive gear for getting to and from the hunting locations. When you're out in the back country roads hunting, Lord knows there's nothing but highways with open fields and dimpled street signs peppered by bird shot.

For this application, I do not disagree with you one bit.

Honestly, I'm still trying to figure out where, other than the OP's Title, the TH400 came into his question....?

And also, for the OP.....IF you are talking about an older 350, with Flat Tappet type cam....if you change the Cam, you MUST change the Lifters also...the lifters "wear in" to the Cam, and if not changed, WILL ruin the new cam and/or lifters in a very short time.

Been there done that don't change lifters you'll be doing it all over again. But the 350th will be better for his application more so for what he's gonna do with it.

i didn't see lifter ...you have to use new lifter with new cam ..only way to use old lifter if they ran with the same cam had same hole they came out

I have seen guys swap lifters on an old cam with no issues but never seen anyone not put in new lifters with a new cam. You can get a cam from Summit for 119 with the lifters included. Unless your looking at race only parts, Cam and lifters usually come in a set.
