both of my exterior door handles are broken and i was thinking of shaving them. has anyone done this and where did you get your kit from?

I have done this on another s-10 I had. I got the kit through Godfather customs if I remember correctly. They are very simple to wire up. The only problems I had was the selinoids would get a ring of rust right around the base. Simple wd-40 fixed it everytime.
Now if it is a daily driver it can get to be a pain if your in and out alot. But it is cool none the less. Make sure you add at least one hidden straight wired switch to get in. That away the first week you leave your keys in the switch you can get in.
Now would be a good time to relocate your battery as well. If it goes dead you can't get in to pop the hood. Then you break glass or like I did you break the sliding window.

Just another thought about the shaved handles........
If you ever plan to race it at a safety-minded (NHRA, etc.) dragstrip..... I'm pretty sure you won't be allowed to race. A safety thing.

But for a street machine, show car, its all cool, no problem.:icon_wink:

One other thing to think about. This pissed me off more than anything, WINTER! frozen door seals take for dang ever to de-thawed with a hairdryer!

there is a bunch of kits on ebay or if you get truckin magazine there is a few adds in there with them not that big of deal to do just do as previous post said put in a hidden switch. also if you dont want to move battery install a hidden hood release nothing worse than a dead battery and cant get in your truck to get to it

I bought my kit from airbagit.com. great kit, east to install. I paid 110 with shipping about 1 1/2 yrs ago. 3 days in the mail and I had it. I went with remote, so no button or anything to try to hide.

I mounted my brain box to the back of the glove box, ran dedicated hot wire (fused) to the brain. Also, if you are using your truck as a daily driver, make sure you add buttons inside, if you yake out the inner handles. And, fyi, I have had trucks with shaved handles for many years, and have never had the doors freeze hard enough to keep me out. you can add poppers that push the door out. I mounted mine in the hinge area for a little bit extra leverage.

It took me about 4 hours to install, not counting body work. Use 18ga sheet to make your filler plates and TAKE YOUR TIME when you weld them in!!!!

Pick up a truckin or mini-truckin magazine and check out the ad's.
