hello, i had a '91 chevy s10 4cyl 2.5L vin A, its 2wd, manual, 2dr/short bed.. i hadnt made any modifications yet, just fixing problems and maintenance. the engine recently blew during regular, calm driving, on taking the head off, well yall can see if you want pics look towards the end->

so i was planning on swapping a 350 in there but now i am bein forced to ahead of schedule cause i'm now stuck on the bus!!!

im gonna need to wait a week to be able to purchase most if not all the peices ill need to get the engine ready and in, heres a list of what i should need so far:

intake manifold, carb, distributor, will change all the gaskets before putting it in, electric fans, flywheel, ill need to have my exhaust pipe cut and split.

then i may need new engine mounts? radiator? exhaust headers? and maybe a new clutch if my current one wont fit.

as for how i am doin this i am gonna be skimping on some things only for at first, that arent completely necessary (things i can put off for another paycheck/etc.) like a transmission.. im thinking my transmission will likely fit and i believe the stock one on my truck is able to handle up to v6? so im thinkin like for the tranny i will leave the origional and just take it easy till i get that swapped out.

any special tips/suggestions definitely welcome, i am relatively new to mechanics tho i got someone experienced and whos done successful swaps helping/teaching me.

the engine im putting in is for an automatic which is why ill need a flywheel. i want to keep it manual. also i am going to be trying to make as many things (like distributor) mechanically adjusted to keep the computer out to try to minimize those issues.

my friend thats helpin w/ the engine swap has the same engine in a late 80's pontiac, and the computer thats in my truck and his car both have the same ecm? num printed on em so we will probably copy his program onto my chip (hes gotta burner).

Sorry, to hear about your luck. The bellhousing for the 2.5L will not match up with a SBC block. A carbed sbc swap will be the thriftiest way to go. Good Luck! :icon_wave:

on the bus that sucks! don't start on you truck right away go buy a doner car or truck that has the drive train that you are looking for then you will have a car to drive while you set up your s10 then do the swap when you have everthing ready. will be cheaper to do this way and you won't be rushed and do a bad job of it.

Welcome to the site.
The tranny from the 4 cylinder won't work on the v8. You will need a tranny also. As was suggested a donor vehicle would make the easyist swap since most all pieces that are needed will be there.
