Hey guys,

My truck has historically had a problem with fluctuating oil pressure. It drops from 55 psi to about 35-40 when I hammer it and then slowly comes back up. It went away when I changed to a K&N oil filter, but reappeared when I put on an oil cooler kit. Some people on here have suggested that maybe the bypass spring in the adapter is too weak and causing the issue. So, I bought an adapter without the bypass in it. There seem to be some conflicing opinions regarding using these adapters, so I wanted to get your opinions before bolting it on. If it matters, I'll still be running the cooler, K&N filter, and I run 15w40 diesel oil.

My other thought is that an aftermarket adapter with the bypass might have a more performance oriented spring in it. Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Jeff

I have one of the aluminum ones without bypass on my motor without problems. I don't even remember who made it. It looks like the summit aluminum ones except it is red. If you got it put it on and see if it helps. It is only a couple bolts.

That's kinda what I was thinking. I just wanted to make sure it wouldn't hurt anything . . .

Thanks,

Jeff

I agree, you got it try it. The only other theory was the OEM way. Having a thermostat in the adapter to by-pass the cooler until the temp came up. Them slowly feed the cooler. Never allowing full flow to the cooler. An aftermarket temp switch is overly priced and only helps to make things compact. The main problem with the OEM adapter is the size. It adds about 4" more than just the filter. The regular sandwich adapter you were speaking of would only add 2" plus the filter.

JUST TRY YOUR NEW ONE!!!

Sounds good. I'll swap it out this winter and see if it worked in a few months!

Thanks,

Jeff
