I want to drag race my 96 s-10. Starting out with a 350 block bored .030 over with a 383 rotating assembly. Want to run 12.0-1 compression. Any help with heads, intake or cam would be appreciated.

Welcome to the site.
A 383 in an S-10 is a good starting point. Plenty of guys here are using 383s.
But first give us some idea of your use........ street/strip? Dragstrip only? And, how fast do you want or need to go? 'cause if race-only, the sky's the limit, depending on how much you want to spend, and how much work you want to do. Since you mentioned 12-1, gotta think you're thinking race-only.

Solid lifter cam .533/.555 lift 250/260 duration. Victor Jr intake, 750 carb, iron Bowtie heads, headman longtube headers. This will get you 11.5's all day. (my previous setup) If you want to go faster change to dart pro1 heads. (my current setup) This should get you 11.0's. Change to 2" fenderwell headers should get you 10.80's - 10.90's. If you want even faster, change to a solid roller cam and you should be mid 10's without much fuss. With 12-1 you will need a minimum of 108 fuel. I prefer C12 myself, but I have a tad more compression at 13.5-1.

well i suppose you can do it many different ways i like spending half the money on the motor and making up the difference in n2o.

to get 500+hp when you buy all new parts, machine work and gaskets, pan and carb yada yada yada you are looking at 5k give or take a few bucks.

now you can build a 400hp motor like me with flat tops, vortec heads, stock truck pan, and a 100 shot and still end up with the 500hp and way more tq then you would have all motor for $2500.

and if you ever want more power all you have to do is change a $3 pill rather then have to buy another set of $1400 set of heads

just how i would do it

I agree to a point because I'm running the same setup with 100 shot. The downside to my combo is useing it on the street, I would rather have 520hp all the time rather than having to heat a bottle or fill it to get my 520hp and lets not forget 40 bucks to refill a 10lb bottle. Turbo or all motor is best for the street.

The other thing to ask is what kind of racing you will be doing? Bracket racing, I would run all motor. Heads up or index, then go for the NO2.

I'm kinda proud of my combo. Makes about 565 hp (+ or - a few) naturally aspirated. Then got a 180?? shot on it.

383 internally balanced, 13.3:1 compression, Scat 9000 series crank, 6" Scat rods with 7/16" Socket Head Cap Screws by ARP, HRC "Ross" pistons, .005" deck heigth, Felpro MLS Head Gaskets, Edelbrock Performer RPM heads 170cc runners, Herbert Solid Roller cam 256/268 dur. @ .050", .640/.640 lift w/1.6 rockers, 7/16" rockers studs, PBM extreme duty rockers, Herbert Alpha Series roller springs, Manley severe duty valves, tall single plane manifold (cheap Professional Products Hurricane W/lots of porting), Holley DP with Proform Base and Center Section, Mallory ignition box #685, Headman Hussler Fenderwell headers 2" primaries with 3 1/2" collectors, Autolite AR3934 plugs, 29 deg. timing locked out on the bottle, 10 degrees start retard in the Mallory box.

Truck has Caltracs and stock suspension, Ford 9" rear with 4.56 gears, 28 x 10.5 ET Drag slicks, Powerglide W/1.82 1st gear, foot braking with Atlantic Coast Converters stall, weighs around 2950 with me in it. Moroso trick spring up front, Lakewood 90/10 shocks up front, Red Ryder stock shocks in the rear.

I'm sure I could get some more numbers out of it with with a head change and a T-brake. But so far I'm very pleased.

Best ever on motor was 1.49 60ft. 6.80 ET 1/8th mile 101 mph. Needed a looser converter and T-brake.

Best times so far on the bottle 1.38 60ft. 6.27 ET 1/8th mile 108 mph. Backed up my best with another identical pass at the same track (Dunn/Benson) and another pass at Fayetteville Motorsports Park 1.39 60ft. 6.28 ET 1/8th mile 108 mph.

Should go about 9.90 in the 1/4 with a gear change or taller tire.

Steel crank, steel rods, and forged pistons would be an excellent start. I would prefer a roller cam due to the fact they pretty much last forever and no start-up worries. This will give you a bullet proof bottom end that will last for years. There would no end to what you can use on top. Good heads aren't cheap. Or I will sell you my motor. 625 hp 12.5-1 comp. Lots of other goodies. Good as any new motor, low time. $5500.00. New would be 9 or 10 thousand.

I'm in Kentucky. Yes. 5500.00. Less the carb that is on it now (will replace with another good Holley, alt. bracket, and dist. Heads are 2200.00 alone. Block is a Dart Little M.
