View Full Version : oil filter relocater;good or bad?
since i put long tube headers on the oil filter is burried.i had a remote filter kit on it and had a problem.it took longer than i thought it should to get pressure.an engine builder friend of mine said it was because it was higher than the stock filter.is this true?i have nowhere level or lower to put it.should i just leave the filter where it is (stock location)?

I have the long tubes also and it is tight around the oil filter. I changed to a "stubby" oil filter and it gives quite a bit more room. I don't remember the number, but a good parts guy can get you what you need. Don't bother with autozone. I don't like relocate kits for racing. Just another thing to leak or break.

Try an AC PF25 or equivelant filter. They are the same as the PF 35 except shorter. There is a newer filter same as the PF25 but it has a check ball in it. The PF 1218 will be too long but it also has a check valve in it.
Also if you can get a short WIX filter they are the best IMO, or a Napa Gold I think it is also a WIX filter.
thanks guys.grim, you're on the money.my relocater leaked.and i will look into the short filter. i was curious about drainback if mounted too high.thanks again

Drain back is the biggest issue. I had bought a truck with a relocater in it. It took too long for it to build oil pressure. The rubber hoses swelled alot when the oil was cold. I was always worried about the hoses until one hose blew off. Fixed it with double hose clamps and ran it for another 6months. That was until the motor started to knock. It only had @ 15k on it. I think the relocater is what killed my motor.
On my s10 I have one. I use the hydrolic lines like for a tractor/loader. It is also mounted on the same level as the original filter is mounted.
I have a pic in my gallery.

Filter relocators are JUNK. I had heddman long tubes before my drivetrain swap (fenderwells now and love'em) On my long tubes i put a dent in the primary that was in the way of removing the oil filter. Had no problems after that.
