I have heard of guys doing this cause they would break mounts. I dont really have the money for engine plates right now and I dont think I would want to use them on this truck anyhow. Do any of you use a chain ? and if you do where do you attach it? my motor really rolls to the side when i gun it in neutral and thats without doing it on the street in gear. I re-adjusted it and tightened the long bolts going through the mounts but my header will still come close to and sometimes contact my steering column. I dented the header a little. What do you guys think?-solid mounts?, chain? Thanks

solid mounts and a chain for safety if your motor is moving that much man.

if your running more than 450hp..or more than 450ftlb of tourque.. I'd chain it for sure...

as to what side to put the chain on..when you rev your motor.. its the side the comes up.. weld the chain to the frame accorss from the motor mount... remove one of your top motor mount bolts that attaches the mount to the block get a large washer and a longer bolt ( about a 1/2 inch longer to make up for the lost of the chain thickness) Put the bolt w/ washer through the chain, then into the block...

you'll find you"ll have to cut the chain before you install it.. your bolt will not go though with 2 links .. you need to have the end link.. so it has only 1 link passing through it.

hope this helps

If your motor moves that far you already have a busted mount.

Mike, I really like those mounts.

Just use the frame mounts that Mike has listed and you will be all set.

And I agree, if it's twisting up as high as you say then it's probably already got a busted frame mount.

Those mounts in the parts section are not same bolt pattern that I have. My mounts have 4 bolts instead 3 going to the frame. My buddie who helped me put this truck together welded these in for me. He already had the motor side of the swap mounts. I wish I had looked up this website before I started my build. I think these a v8 frame mounts from a 1/2 ton. I had to grind them so they would be narrower and fit in the engine side of the mounts. I have uploaded some pics in my gallery.

I would not use a chain to keep the motor from moving. Change the mounts if need be. Using a chain for safety is a great idea. However if you intend on using the chain to stop the motor from rocking there is a good chance you will end up pulling the bolts out or even worse, cracking the block. JMO

Mike, I like those solid mounts. You just use them in conjunction with the adapter mounts that go on the motor side, right? How stout are the adapter mounts when using a transbrake?

I've never used chains before, but I have used threaded rod and turnbuckles. One end on the frame and the other on an accesory hole on the end of the head. Just hardware store stuff, but it works.
