View Full Version : Best slick?
In your opinion what is the best slick? I'm talking about a 13 to 14" tire. And for a truck that weights 2300lbs on the track.

M/T rule the tracks around here. 95% of the sportsman guys at the Div 5 race in Great Bend and the sportsman guys at the nationals in Topeka were on M/T. But when I was at the Mile High Nationals at Bandimere last year 95% of the sportsman cars there were on Hoosiers. I thought that was kind of strange unless it was a contingency thing.

Mickeys are the most common, but I believe it's because they are cheaper in most cases. I've run M/T and Hoosiers. Hoosiers hooked alot better, but didn't last nearly as long and cost more to buy. Almost all the REALLY fast guys around here run Goodyears or Hoosiers.

I have had good luck with Hoosiers hooking my truck and not loosing air. The MT ET Drags work well for me too, but they go flat in about 2 days. The Hoosiers I use to run would hold air all winter.
My truck has been 1.44 60ft. times on both Hoosiers and MT slicks. Truck goes 1.38-1.40 60ft. times now with MT slicks but I'm spraying it harder off the line than previously.
I would like to try another set of Hoosiers with the same set up I have now, I'm sure they would work just as well.

They all make tires from various compound and the softer or firmer compound is what makes the most difference. As was said, M/T's are a little cheaper in price but make a good tire. Also, size matters (no pun intended, lol). You have to compare tire size, and compound when purchasing. ie, I have a 71 Pontiac Ventura, a 9" slick is all there is room for. Hoosier has 29 & 30 by 9's in a soft compound, soft 28's are 10" wide and won't go on my car. Both G/Y and M/T offer soft compound 28x9's. Maybe you see the point.
slicks? they still make them things?
