Im going for a ls2 swap and I was wondering. Can a 400 hp ls2 bult up to a 700r4 and can the 700r4 take that much power? Or should I get a 4L60E from a gto or vet? Any build a 700r4 to take more power. I didnt really want to swap it out being I just rebuilt it not to long ago.

yes a 700 can take 400hp. but to bolt it to a newer LS2 i think you need an adapter plate. but if you get the motor from a door car i would just try and get the trans too.

anyone got an idea of how much a 700r4 might take? I was thinking of a 150 shot also.

You are gonna need the 700r4 or 4l60e built to handle that kind of output. You would be looking at a stage 2 or 3 build. This would include the upgrade on hard parts needed. The stock 700r4 from GM would not last long with the final output you are looking for . The 4l60e would last longer if tuned properlly and a good shift kit. You would be better off with the 4l60e and all the electronics to mate the engine and trans together. You have to have a computer and a harness for the LS2? Why not have the electronics extend to the trans and be done.

What about a 4L80E? I don't think a 4L60E is much stronger than a 700R4 when built properly, it's mostly due to being computer controlled why they last better... As far as a 700R4 mounting to an LS2, it looks like it will, you may have to drill and tap one of the bolt holes on the passenger side unless you have a Gen IV block, they don't have the boss that you can drill and tap... Here is a picture of an aluminum LS2 block...

well i would have to say it will fit. a stock 4l60e is just as weak as a stock 700 the 4l60e being worse because of the sloppy shifts. burning clutches much faster. BUT built right with proper programming the 4l60e would be your best bet. but if you could get your hands on a 4l80e then you would have something that will take 1000+ hp

hmm well I think ill go back to my first plan either a ls2 and 4l60e out of a gto or a vet. any one know how to convert the throttle from electronic to cable on that motor?

I believe that Scroggin Dickey sells throttle bodies that will mate up. As for how the pcm will react I'm not sure never tried it but I'm sure there are adapters for all the necessary drive by wire connections.

I wasnt sure how I would run the electronic one, I would have to mount the electronic gas pedal and Im not sure how hard that would be. Anyone done it?

the 1st 6.0s were cable operated. so you just need that TB and make sure thats the programming you use in the stand alone ECM.
