I'm trying to decide between aluminum and fiberglass. Has anyone ran one of these ultralite aluminum hoods on the street from here http://aftermarket-hood.com/Shop_On-Line.htm. I'm wondering how they hold up, and if it's flimsy or not.

Mudy851 here,i've had one your not going to like it forone you got to paint it with zinc chromate primer to make auto paint stick, and the price sucks as compared to a good harwood pin on or bolt on,and to me the fiberglass was more ridgid. I'm now installing a one peace fiberglass front clip with air tilt front just to be different, this is on the latest truck which i've not posted pictures yet but will once done and its 4 inch chop top, lambo doors, and 3/5 drop with newest motor which is 572 twin turboedwith rear mounted intercooler.

how much better time's do you run with a lighter hood i can't believe they make that much difference than a stock hood you can buy new for 100 bucks

Dollar for dollar I have no copmparison. But Aluminum is lighter than fiberglass. So, for a racer lighter is better. By adding an alum hood you cut xxx amount of weght of the nose. Say your truck is put on a teeter-tooter. By changing to an alum hood the nose weight decreases. That would tilt the tooter. Readjust the tooter sow its is level and the teeter tooter moves back toward the rear axel. That addition will create mor rear weight and aid to traction.

so what you want to do is lighten the front to get better launch times that makes since. i think i'm going to try with and without a hood this summer and see if it makes a difference thanks for the info.

Your truck is not as aerodynamic without a hood so the results may not be comparing just the weight of the hood.

MUDDY851 I knew about the paint but did you get your hood from the same manufacturer I was talking about. The aluminum hood is only 550$ and not custom made

Only $550.00, more than a steel cowl hood. :icon_eek:

Seriously, Red share some info on the aluminum hood. We could all use a little less nose weight.

Just go here http://aftermarket-hood.com/Shop_On-Line.htm pick your year truck. THen find a hood that has the aluminum option. Click buy one now. Then on the next page you'll see the second option has where you canorder iit in aluminum for 249 extra for a total of 549 then 89$ for shipping.

All I need is one of you to say it's a good deal and will hold up on my daily driver and I'll buy one.

I can't really say it is a good deal because I don't know why you would want an aluminum hood.

I did start this thread for peoples opinions. but I wanted peoples thought on how an aluminum hood would hold up on the street. The hood is not 700$ it's the same price as a hardwood with cheaper shipping.

I'm curious, has anyone actually seen one of the aluminum hoods? I mean if you need to replace the hood anyway, why not go lighter, if they will hold up.
