well I started on Jan 4th and finished ( so far ) on Jan 26, and drove it to Cartersville, Ga from Jacksonville Fl, on Feb 1st to start work. I broke it in around town ,, then hit the highway... so far no major issues... on the 2nd oil change w/ 1100 miles on it now...
this thing hauls 2 kinds of butt....
Here is the specs:
99 extended cab S10 ( was a 4.3 5speed )
motor:
BluePrint Engines CT383-1 383cid with 400 Scat crank, KB pistons, manhley rods, 1 piece real seal, 68cc iron vortec heads ( straight plugs ) Mallory ign, Mallory dist, Elderbrock intake and 700cfm carb. used the old S10 v-6 serpentine accessories drive and brackets.
Trans:
TKO 600 ( tremec ) 5 speed w/ .62 OD., Lakewood bell, 11 inch zoom clutch, Hydro throw out ( Howe racing ) using stock clutch master cly. steel breaded adapter line from McCloud. Stock crossmember ( simple mod )
Rear:
stock 3.08 With this ratio.. 5th gear gives 1400rpm @ 55mph, or 1700rpm @ 70mph or 2200rpm @85mph.. yep.. putt.. putt. putt... and getting 18mpg on break-in.. should come up to 20-22mpg!!
Drive shaft: I could of not shortened this shaft... the TKO is a perfect fit...but it was a little to far in for me ( the yoke was pushed all the way in with a 1/16 inch left before the yoke rubbed the trans output shafts seal. So I had is shortened 3/4 inch and ballanced with new center bearinf ((this is a 2-piece shaft )) installed as well as new u-joints.
Cooling: Corvette rad, 11 inch dual Spal fans, radiator in forward position, modified lower air dam where front tag should go, to accommodate an mod that allows me to use the old air scoop to pick up more air and shove it into the rad. Condenser was stock S10... with a few pieces of 1 inch angle iron. I made room for it in front of the radiator.
A complete list of the hoses and mod's are listed in here... with details on how to make them will be posted,,
Interior:
Auto Meter 6 gauge kit, installed into stock bezel, this could be the hard way,, but was easy for me. The center console shifter location did not have to be moded. the TKO has a lot of shifter locations to choose from But the stock shifter was used but only the shifter location had to be mover forward. It was simple to undo the 6 bolts and turn the shifter around and install 6 bolts. As you can see in the pics.. its dead balls on perfect center of the stock location of the shifter hole in the floor pan.
Well that's it for now...I'm at work and only have slow butt dial up .. so pics will be posted as soon as possible, I'll explain as much as I can about the as I can.
