Hey guys, I'm new to the forum and posted a while back. Trying to find any shops near Kentucky that do LSx engine swaps. I have a 2000 S10 xtreme with 4.3 auto in it. I really don't have the area expertise to do the swap. Thanks guys.

You will be hard pressed to find a "Professional" shop that will put a V8 into a 2000 model year truck in/around Kentucky.

Under Federal laws enacted in 1996, that require an OBDII computer interface to be installed and operational, a non-original engine being installed into a chassis must be compatable with the OBDII computer systems on that chassis. Beings that an S-10 NEVER came with a V8 engine, you will not be able to meet those guidlines, UNLESS you have a brand new computer "burned" to match your chassis AND V8 engine.

You cannot just put a Camaro or Silverado computer in your S-10, because factory OBDII computers are encrypted with the chassis's VIN number, and that must match the truck, which it WOULD NOT.

There ARE places that will do the swap, and do it LEGALLY, but chances are VERY slim that you will find one in Kentucky.

It's just like Catalytic Converters, a lot of states do not have Emissions Testing, but even in THOSE states, an Exhaust/muffler shop still cannot remove your CAT for you. It is Federally Mandated that it be on the vehicle to comply with FEDERAL LAW, and the shop can be hit with HUGH fines if they get caught removing it.

Well that sounds good. Tell the guy if he does a real nice job, you'll show his work here on this very active forum! Might be some incentive to get a great job done in a timely fashion.:icon_wink:
