TWO suggestions:

1. Paid membership, so you can post more than once every 24 hours.

2. Learn your truck better. You have EITHER a 5speed manual OR a 700R4 (4 spd Auto.), not both.

My opinion: If you already have a 400 smallblock, dollar for dollar, you'd be better off building that and selling the 350. For less money than you will spend at the machine shop having your block and crank machined, you can buy "heavy duty" parts to build the 400 to do everything that a 383cid will, and still have 400cid. (If you were saying that you have a 350 v8 and a TH400 transmission, then you need to be more clear in your posts, and none of the above opinion applies).

Dusty, welcome to the site. There's some great folks here who can really save you alot of frustration, since they have been through what your considering. I would go along with advise about the 400 build, too. What helps me is to spend a ton of time using the search feature, it will cover almost anything involved in the swap. It's a funny thing with the S10's, new problems crop up, and there's wealth of experiance here to give you a hand. This is easily the best site I've been involved with, and you'll find that too.

I have a 94 with a 400sb and am having cooling issues but found that i had a blown head gasket. I'm in the process of fixing that and I hope it fixes the problem. I have a new 85 corv. rad. with 2 10 inch fans, personally I think that should do it. If it don't work, I have a 350 to build that already has forged internals.

Click on the "register" tab at the top left of this page, just under the S10V8 logo.

As to the rod knock, pull the oil pan and look for small parts, or metal shavings. While you're in there, pull the main bearing caps and rod caps and inspect the bearings and journals. It don't cost nothing to get dirty.

That all assumes you know what to look for, and have the tools and ability to do the work. If any of that is lacking, and the 350 is a running motor, I would still skip the "stroker" build (if the 400 has a "rod knock" it may not actually BE a rod, but the crank, and possibly rods, is/are what you need to do the "stroker") and go with the "stock/original" 350.

you can buy a scat or eagle stroker crank for around 150.00 if you look,,it will cost you almost that by the time you have your 400 crank turned down,,, it is a lot of work to put it in,,,, the rods have to be chamferd of to clear the camshaft,, and a lot will have to come off inside the pan rails and the bottom of the cylinder walls depending on what rods you use,,, i am building one for my 99 right now,, i wouldnt use a 400, heard to many of them run hot
