Well I got more done than I thought I would just last night. Set the engine mounts checked the tranny cross member. Everything looks good so far! That till I Put the body back down frame. The S-10 store headers fit perfect!

I plan to mock everything up to get measurements. And tare down after.

I hope this weekend to hang my 9" rear. Get drive line mocked up and dr. shaft meas. Here some pic. Used my phone, my digital cam broke! So the picture quality my not be that great.

Gee Wiz that's nice. If only they made those headers in large tube fenderwells. Been wanting to do a LSX S-10 but I want BIG headers. I want some headers for a 2nd generation and 2" tubes. I guess I'd have to call Stahl and tell them build them and send the bill to .......?????? My next ride will probably be a 2nd generation with a LSX with lots of goodies, or a 15 or 18 degree motor.

Good looking progress!

That would be sweet to have big tubes, or full lenght headers. It could be done for right amount of money! Been lucky so far, this build hasn't banged my wallet to hard yet. Think I have something... around $1,800 so far. I guess Its matter of time till I wish $1800 was all I had in it! Your dream build would be the sH#t! I'll keep you posted!:D

Is that a stock 6.0L or is it a 408/418?
Are you putting a carb on it or keeping it fuelie?

Looks awesome buddy. Great Job!

BigMean
03-19-2009, 11:56 AM
No just a 5.3. I plan to build a stroker kit for it. Going to carb it. I have the fuelie but not sure if Im going to use it. Who knows I might! A friend and I are building the tranny next week. Let me rephrase that "MY BUDDY is, and I might be helping him!" TH350 with green performance clutches new pump and a shift kit. I found out last night that Im needing to build a longer drive shaft. Going to PowerDrive, local shop here. Going to build a BEEFY one.

Building my 9" ford now.

Question, I was reading in past post. And since Im using a 9", could I use some Trac bars off a Ranger with the rear end? The bolt plate would match with U-Bolts, I would think!

Im having a blast with this build! Been a few years since I jumped this deep in anything, almost forgot how fun it is!:D
Thanks for the support, and yeah I'll keep the photos coming!

I was lurking around the LS1 tech site. There is a guy doing a SWEET lS1 swap in a '00 dime. He did some research, and came up with a way to run the truck front drive with a ls1 intake!

Really like his idea!

The mod is to move the idler pulley from the stock location to a lower mount.
Have to use a '07 silverado water pump, and a 102 inch belt.

2351:cool:

See the Alt. mount just to the left is the old mount for the idler. He just bought some all thread and a nut , took the retainer clip off the back of the bolt for the pulley and bolted it on.

Well see if I read everything correctly!!! Think it will work, and save me a bundle on a vette or F-body drive!

I'll keep you guys posted, I have to find a LS1 intake now!

Any of you boys have a Stock LS1 or LS2 intake laying around with fuel rails and injectors??? PM me If someone has anything!

Later!

Well, minus the LS6 intake, and the '07 Sliverado water pump w/the 102" belt. Here it is! Easy swap!
2386
I just followed the suggestion from the LS1tech site.

The Redneck, or poor boy rigg for the using the good LS6 intake.

1.Move the Idler pulley from the stock location, to just below the alt.

2.Fab up Alum spacer to 13/16" (or so) drilled out to 10mm(Im going to have the spacer welded to the bracket, stronger mount)

3.Swap out the short bolt for a longer 6" 10mm bolt. (note, save that retainer star clip to hold the bearing race to the pulley)

4. And hack off the stock mounting ear, where the idler was.( Gain clearance for the trott body) grind and smooth it out.

5. Swap out the stock water pump, for the '07 Silverado style. (The camaro style will work, the pump pulley is too small, you could change it to the truck style, but take a chance of breaking something!) Just buy the truck pump!

6. Swap out the belt for a 102".( Im using Goodyear Gator back #4061020/6PK2590) And route the belt via my picture.( cut a old belt to get a idea on how it the belt will route, I bought the belt today!)

And bolt up the LS6 intake. Mine should be here from E-bay soon. :naughty:

I might have to change the trottle body to one that has smaller linkage. I was told that there could be clearance issues. Have to see. Ill have more info as I dive into this!

Im stoked to get this mod done, this makes using my stock hood easy! The LM4( truck intake) was a little too tall. Add's to the sleeper look I want!

This is my 2 cents, thought you guys might want to know this!:D

I'll have more pix as I go!

Justin:)

A very important thing to do when painting them is not only to use the primer but to clean them VERY well. Even if you bead blast them, wipe them off with some Pre All, Aceton, or some other cleaner. And wear latex gloves when whiping them down so you don't get finger prints on the bare metal. (paint will peel there)
Are your headers shorties?

If they are small enough you can do the "baking" process in your home oven.
I have painted several different sets of headers with that paint and it does last longer if you can bake them like described on the can. I have done 2 sets of the standard shorties and a set of valve covers in my house oven. (make sure wife is gone :nono:) I have a large oven at my work that I put my fenderwell headers in.

Hope I wasn't gonna have to deal with this till later in life!

Yeah thats the headers from the store. Wish that I bought long tubes from Hedman. Got some mid-lenght ones un-painted for under $300. Might do that, and sell these on ebay or craigs. ;)

Kent, have you heard of a tuner place called http://www.wait4meperformance.com./. For $360 the said I would have my harness reworked and ECM tuned. Kind hard to beleave.

Justin I have seen then before, just don't know their quality. For the $360 I would not expect anything special. I think it would be for a harness with good connectors and no replacements needed. The ECM tuning would be to make the stock ECM to standalone only. I think you would have to pay extra for any changes like cam and head change. I would give them a call and test the waters before just a complete trust at the start.

Like I said, call them. I would think they want to lure people in with the base price and have things add up quick. Justin, are you making alot of changes to the LSx or keeping it stock? Do you have anything to communicate with the ECM when you get her done? There are tuners that will do an email tune to you if you have the ability to upload it yourself. There are many things on the market today... I have a list of tuners I would deal with if you are interested. I really depends on how extravagant you want to get.

Thanks Kent. I plan to cam it, not cats and NOS later.

What a hand held?, ( I guess thats what you ment) to upload a tune? What would you suggest to get.

Let me know about the tuners you know.

I would deal with them in order. The top of the list being better. I would no limit myself to just this list.

http://larryselectricsite.com/pcmprogramming.html

No Justin, I was speaking of is using a laptop and have a cable that would connect to the ALDL and to the laptop. You would need a program to read and upload the file to the flash ECM. I do this with my LT1 with LT1 Edit. They also have the programming to do LSx. They are http://carputing.tripod.com/index.htm
There are others like Tunercats and HP tuners that give the same ability. These programs allow you to make any changes you want and or upload a tuner's file via email.

See, Said the blind man.

LS1 Edit, or EFI live. Ok, got the laptop. Cough up the cash for the program.

Thanks Kent.

Cant believe I missed this thread for a couple of months.

First off, Congrats on the engagement! Have you set a date or are you already hitched?

Truck has come a long way since I seen it last. Looks great, doing a great job on it.

Great to hear that your dad is doing great.

And I know how taking pills everyday is. 25 years old and I take prescription Axid twice a day to prevent heartburn. Thats one I will have to do as long as Im around. Unless they come up with something better down the road.

Keep on updating. I'll be sure to check in more often! Cant wait to see it finished. You had better post up some videos of it.

Oh and I believe I would try to pick up some mid-length or longtubes.

And hell yes! I'll have a video!

Here is one more picture of the modified truck pulley layout.
The LS1 intake will not clear the water pump, or the idler pulley on the truck drive.

So, Get out a saw. Long bolt and 2007 Silverado water pump. 102.5" belt.
Easy to do. Saved me alot of $$$. :D

2647 Wrong water pump. Throttle linkage hits.

2648 Correct water pump, with truck intake.

2649

2650 With the LS1 intake on, you can really see how much lower the intake is.

Thought Id share this with you guys!:)

I haven't had any time to work on the dime. But I have tested my welding skills! :o
I just built a Goose Neck Trailer for my business.

24ft with a 16ft cold Storage box for the holiday season. I sell alot of fresh turkeys and hams. I've been needing to do this for along time. I cant afford to have this inventory in my walk in cooler. Ryder truck and Peniske truck wants $1200 a Month for rental. Even though the truck is never used for delivery, just sets in my parking lot. :icon_mad:

This will pay for it self in 2 years. After building this, Im ready to anything now!:headbang:

Ha! Thanks Kent!

The truck really don't do bad with the load. I was unsure about it. But the trailer is well balanced, and hardly moved the ride height of the truck.

The 6.6 with , Intake and 4" strait pipe - Edge Juice tune really walks down the road!
I wont and will never own anything less than a 3/4 ton. I have too many toys to haul! And If your gonna have a pickup, buy a real one. Just cant work a 1/2 ton like this! :D

Anyone Need a Smoked Turkey or Spiral Cut Honey Glazed Ham for the Holidays? LOL! I have em! :)
