Basic wiring for sbc in 4cyl. s10.

Can someone just make a sticky on top of this thread to show the wiring? Tired of looking and no pics so that doesnt help. i have a 89 s10 had a 2.5. now it has a sbc and need to figure out what wirings coming out of the firewall on the driverside that i will need to get it started. Pics would be nice. Just alt/battery/starter/dist, will be used. need info asap so lmk. gonna tuck wiring into frame or body so will post pics. i used to do it on import cars so i think it will look bitchn on v8's.

did you cut the old wiring?normally you can mark the old wiring and just reuse it.The 4cly starter and alternator wiring can/should plug right in.then find the key on power from the old coil for the power lead to the new coil HEI is most common.hope this helps

well it was wired by a friend of mine but he is in iraq. the only wires that were used was a pink, purple, one to the dist, other to the starter. and then theres 2 more red ones one is a big red one and one is red with a white stripe on it. i read a few things but i get confussed when it says fuse link. thanks for the quick response guys i appreciate it.

yeah the old harness was cut at the firewall on the drivers side by the brake booster. just really confused where the 2 red wires go. i got the purple to the big lead on start, and the pink on to the dist. but what goes to the battery and alternator. is there a jumper inbetween or something that goes back to the starter?

The purple wire goes to small stud on starter
The pink wire goes to dist.
The red wire with two eyes in the middle goes to the distribution block on firewall and other end goes to batt. +
The red wire with single eye on the end goes to alt.
The wire hanging off + batt. cable goes to alt.

This is how mine is and everything works fine.

so the starter only has one wire?
where is the distribution block on firewall?
also the red wires with two eyes?
i only have a solid red wire and a red wire with a white stripe on it ..

the block should be on the top of firewall next to the heater box

mine were both solid red, but if yours were cut off at the firewall then you'll just have to do trial and error. One goes to the batt.+ and the other goes to the stud on the alt.
Just be sure not to burn the truck thats never good
