View Full Version : No shift 700r4

Hey guys got a problem with my tranny. It won't shit out of low gear, it had been sitting out in a carport for a about a year or so before i got it, changed the fluid and cleaned the govenor, before i installed it, is it maybe in the valvebody? it's out of a 94 caprice 700r4 bolted to a 5.7 TPI. Any ideas?

I'm fairly sure that's a 4L60E if it's out of a 94 Caprice with a V8... If it is, it's an electronic shift transmission... Do you have a shift control computer wired to it? That could be the problem unless it's a 700R4 from an earlier year that was in that Caprice...

If it is a 700r, the tv cable may be out of adjustment. It will keep one from shifting.

The 94 Caprice had the LT1/ 4l60E combo. If your sure it is a 94, then it's electronic. It will never shift on it's own without a controller.

Well found out the problem, the computer was programed for a 350 th350 combo,so i need to get the prom reprogramed anyone have any suggestions on who to send it to? Also how do you tell the 700r4 from the 4l60e? I know I have the 16 bolt square pan, and it has the square 4 prong plug and the vss at the tail of it.

A 700R4 will have a kick down or TV cable that connects to your throttle linkage, a 4L60E does not and the 4L60E would also have a 13 pin connector on the side of the case as well, if you have only a four pin connector and you have a TV cable, you have a 700R4... Both have a 16 bolt square pan... I'm not into computer reprogramming but I think the above info is correct, I'm sure others on the forum can help you if you need to setup a shift controller...

If that is the case that you need a controller vs another trans, it's called Compushift. PATC sells them for 1000 dollars.

So is that the only option I have or can the memcal be programed to work with the 700r4? Also who do I get in touch with to upgrade my membership I have sent an email to the "contact us" and got no response.the wife dose not put credit csrds on the internet with all the idenitity theft,she is funny about that.
