well i might be dumb in asking this question but here it goes. well i have started my s10 project. i got a rearend and tranny. last i need an engine. i have not ever rebuilt an engine by myself. always with dad. im wanting to do a 3-4 hundred hp that will be used for a daily driver. no computers. im wanting as simple of a motor as i can get. ive been looking in the summit book and there are a thousand choices on cams pistons and all the rest. would yall give me some ideas on this? im trying to stay under 2000 if ican. any ideas would be greatly appriciated.

Well, here is a suggestion. Buy a short block with cast or stock internals. Use a newer one piece rear main which is a roller motor. Get a compression that would be 9.5 -10:1 with 64cc heads. Vortec heads can be perchased new with mods done for higher spring lift for about 800 a set. The heads are at http://www.sdpc2000.com/product/SD8060RA2/SBChevroletVortecCylinderHeadw0600SpringsforRoller Cams.aspx
If you are not looking to spend as much on heads. The Vortecs go for about 200-400 bucks a set on Ebay. You can upgrade the springs yourself.
Choose a cam atleast a 268 advertised duration or more.

i just bought everything for a 383. new block already clearanced for crank for 700 and an eagle 383 balance rotating assembly for 660 and a set of 190cc aluminum heads with 1.6 roller rockers for 800 and a comp cams cam and lifter kit for 195. thats 2300 plus gaskets. with the right carb this motor can easily do 500hp so getting 300-400hp is doable for 2K or less.
