ive never used one of these before so im not exactly sure how i should wire it up. but let me start from the beginning....

we had everything hooked up to run the engine. we had a wire from the battery to the post on the back of the alternator, then we had these two wires that have one eyelet (they are spliced together) labeled fuseable link on them hooked up to the back of the alternator post too. we started the truck and the alternator stayed still (like it was locked up) and the belt started to melt as it was still turning with the crank and water pump but the alt was still. we turned it off and the alternator moves freely again. what am i doing wrong? i had a normal alternator hooked up like this before with no problems.

i can only post once a day so please help me with much detail, since i cant respond til tomorrow. thanks for help

Does it still move freely with the belt tight when not running?? Or did you loosen the belt and then it turned free? I would say the bolt that holds tension on the alternator is against a fin on the alternator fan. I see no way the exciter wire being on or off can cause the thing to lock up. And a 1 wire alternator has a live exciter wire all the time anyway, so as long as the battery is connected it is ready and engaged so to speak.

check you bracket maybe locking the pully up plus did you in stall a bolt in the back of the alt. if so could be to long

Remove the wire going from the Bat + post on the alternator to the two wire plug. That's your problem. A one-wire alternator only has just one wire on it period. Nothing more.

so where should i connect the fusible link eyelet? if i dont put power to it, nothing gets power, ign, starter, etc...i was thinkin gof connecting straight to the battery.

The lead with the fusible link is normally intended to get attached to a wire which powers your accessories. If you have the factory wiring, you'd run a wire attached to the fusible link from the B+ post on the alternator to the power distribution block inside the drivers fender.

You might also post a picture of the what you're talking about to help us help you fix the problem.
