i have a 84 short bed standard cab with a 2.8 v6 and a auto tranny. i would like to switch from this setup to a 350 small block v8 and a turbo 350 tranny... i know this has been done before but could someone tell me all the parts i will need (minus the engine and tranny) to do the swap and about how much it will cost me... i cut the ac system 6 years ago so no need for that. thank you for your help.... i know this is probably a stupid question but i was curious,, whith this added length will i need a new drive shaft?

you will need the mounts http://www.s10v8.com/store/product_info.php/products_id/55the headers http://www.s10v8.com/store/product_info.php/products_id/36
the drive shaft that depends on the shop. and the other stuff is at you choice on what you do to the truck, there is a package deal for all the stuff http://www.s10v8.com/store/product_info.php/products_id/30 this covers all things, except shaft.

thanks, so i take it you cant use the stock exhaust manifold and you have to use these headers, and when you said the drive shaft depends on the shop i will be doing this swap myself... thanks again

Hello! You will need the 9" tall for the 350th to get away with no drive shaft mods. You need the following.
Radiator Vette works good.
Electric fans or engine mounted fan
Engine mount brackets
New engine mounts for a 2.8
Serpentine system from a 4.3 ( of your not going V belt )
Kick down calbe for the 350th
There is more, just to get you started.

Do yourself a favor and surf some of the older threads, you can save yourself alot of time and aggravation. That will also help you see some of the problems you will come against. Welcome to the site and enjoy the build, there is almost no stupid questions. i have already asked most of them!!!!

$$$$ every build is different, depends on what the truck will be used for, street, street/strip, or strip only. If you have usable parts laying around you could keep the expenses low, my swap was in the $5000.00 range but that was with engine and trans. It really depends on what or if you can find deals and what you want the finished product to look like. I know not much help, but Good Luck anyway.

When you say arc welder (<--- correct name) you mean stick? Just want to be sure. I welded up about 95% of my chassis and sheet metal on my s10 beetle project with an arc welder. So yes, you can weld up the entire exhaust using a stick welder. It's very tricky and requires practice.
You'll need some 1/16 6013 welding rods. Set your welder to 40-60 amps or put it on it's low setting. Practice on some scrap before you start welding on your exhaust. You don't want to blow through the pipe (put holes). Weld about an inch and then move to a different section so you don't warp the metal or give it a chance to cool before continuing.
It's tough doing it with a stick but can be done.

the trans you have should be a 9 inch tail since it is coming out of a truck but measure to make sure

okay so today i pulled my 350 engine and tranny out of my 77 c10 and plan on pulling the 2.8 out of the s10 this weeken, pulling itt out wasnt hard at all but im sure mounting it on a s10 will be quite a challeng... my auto tech teacher at school says he is gonna talk to the principal about doing it for me in class so that would be nice. oh and it is a 9' tail tranny

Just to let you know mine was around 5000 with the buying the engine and tranny, having the exhaust farmed out and having a custom driveshaft built, but the cost never seems to stop, this project will probably never get done, been working for about 4 or 5 years

any tips on when doing the swaps, like labeling and stuff like that. can i use the stock engine driven fan with stock v belt to make it a lil cheaper on my small budget.
Ryoung68

Yes you can use the engine driven fan. The JTR S10 swap manual recommends using a steep pitch engine driven fan.
My current build I'm going with a Spal dual 11" electric fans behind a superior aluminum radiator in the forward position.

I have that much in the bottom end .
350 40 over flat tops, balanced, the whole engine itself easy 2400.00 or more
not including the rad, frame mounts, trans, etc, exhaust, and tunning,, give me more, give me more, and i went with all brand new parts, started in
march of 2008, till needs to set it in still....
