my buddy and his dad built up an 89 s-10 2wd about 10 years ago. they put a 283ci v8 in it out of a 67 malibu and then stuck a t5 5 speed manual trans behind the motor. they were told the t5 was perfect for the v8, but in my research it sucks for a v8. they blew up the trans 2 days ago. so what i need to know, is what trans would be a good fit for that motor in a 5 speed manual. any info would be great.

you will want to look for a NV3500 out of either a 2wd s10 or full size truck from behind a 4.3 or a v8. it will have the hydraulic clutch setup as well makin it pretty much a direct bolt in with some crossmember and drive line mods and it will hold up way better than the t5 will ever do

I don't know how a WC-T5 would suck, unless it is completely wore out. Problems with full size trannys out of trucks is they have rather funky ratios in them I wouldn't hesitate to put another T-5 behind that mild motor (world class T5 that is like from the Iroc) Regular 4 speed toploader or saginaw would be lower buck choices too.
